I had my first shot of Zoladex on 8/26/2008.  I was told that my libido would go away, that I would have hot flashes and that I may feel moody.  I know it's only been like five days, but while I'm happy that I seem to be tolerating the drug, I am concerned that since I don't feel anything different, perhaps it isn't doing its job.

I still get aroused looking at my wife, and I haven't experienced so much as a mild flush.  Any feedback on this would be most appreciated.  I would especially like to hear from someone who has taken zoladex shots.

Thanks,

Not everyone experiences  the acute side effects often mentioned. It is too early to judge how effective Zoladex will be for you: usually a PSA test is done at 3 months to gauge what's happening, when hopefully your PSA will be a very low figure.

If you havn't already done so, I always suggest reading the book by Dr Myers mentioned in another recent post here, "Gleason 9 & Hormone Therapy". As discussed in that post I have two friends currently doing well on hormone therapy. In both instances their PSA reduced substantially to under 1 after 3 months. One uses Zoladex, and his PSA reduced from 50 to .2 at 3 months then .04 at 9 months.

Best wishes,

John

Thanks for the pompt reply John.  I don't think I'll have the benefit of knowing what effect the Zolladex is having on my PSA.  I'm suppose to be on it for a month or two (confused about the time frame at the moment) and then I start IMRT.  If I'm getting some benefit from the medication without the side effects I've heard about, I woud be very pleased.  There are no noticable  physiological or psychological effects form the shot.

Morning,

Five days is a little soon to experience any of the side effects of HT--this does not mean the PSA isn't dropping though. Think positive. Enjoy your libido while you have it!!

It took me a good month before I had hot flashes/libido loss.   Libido actually went UP right after the shot (testosteronoe burn off).   GOOD LUCK!
