Hi all

I posted just over a week ago to ask advice on my husband's PSA rise from 0.8 to 1.7. The answer came back that it could be that the cancer has become hormone refractory

He has now been prescribed 50mg daily of Casodex as well as his three monthly injections of Zolodex, but we're not sure what the purpose of this is. Is this the second round in trying to get the PSA level down? If it is, I'm wondering if anyone else has gone down this route and if so, how effective its been.

We don't have a chance to talk properly to the medical team so hoped that someone on here could give us some idea about whats going on. Of course, no-one can be very sure as all cases are different, but just some basic idea would be appreciated

Thank you in advance

The HT options work a little differently, therefore, hopefully if your hubby's cancer has becoming resistant to Zolodex, the Casodex will knock it back down. Some doctors prescribe one HT, other's two, some even do a triple blockade. I hope the Casodex does the trick! All the best!

Julia,

Zoladex blocks testosterone from the testes, Casodex works differently blocking any free testosterone including adrenal glands.

Thanks Col

Thank you both for your responses

I wonder why he wasn't prescribed both from the outset? Maybe the doctors were keeping the Casodex for back-up to increase its effectiveness?

Would a fall in PSA be expected with the inclusion of Casodex?

Sorry to fire off the questions on a Sunday night but feeling a bit in the dark right now

Julia
