Hi Tony,

Great news. Looks like you have a pattern established. Those shots do make you sore for a few days. I swear they do use a harpoon and it is dull.

My very biggest thanks to all of you. We are feeling great tonight. My oncologist is excited about the January Lupron being the last one and, er, so am I. I feel so lucky to have applied all the treatment options we have and we have been so lucky. We didn't have confidence when we found out what we were dealing with after surgery, but to be where we are is truly a blessing!

Rick, thank you so much. I will always be in your bleechers cheering that your success stay as it is. The past is the past and today we need people like you trying the new things to get us all a better rout to conquer this disease! PEACE!!

Tony,

Congratulations on your 0's.  Quick question, since you've done a lot of research.  What are the differences between the various hormone drugs?  You have been taking Lupron in the butt, while I've been taking Zoladex 3 month "seeds" every 3 months in the flab above or below the beltline.  Doctor preference or real studies????

I sure do love the support here. And great to see some of you healingwell "old timers" again. Tom, you live a few miles away...When are we going to meet?

Hawk,
I looked into this and asked around. Zoladex, Trelstar, Eligard and Lupron are all LHRH agonists and will shut down production of testosterone by the testes. They can all have simliar side effects and they all cost about the same. I believe it's doctors preference and its marketing that determines what you'll get in the doctors office. At about 3 grand a pop, and lasting up to 4 months, the companies that make this drug offers incentives to doctors to carry a certain amount of prescriptions for it. I kind of compare it to buying a car. When the dealer comes out and brings the "invoice" for what they paid for the car, I know that in reality that invoice only applies if the car was pruchased one at a time from the factory. But when that dealership buys so many they get discounts off the invoice. Same with doctors that carry only Zoladex. They get incentive to carry a specific product and when they have hundreds of patients, there is a million bucks a year for LHRH prescriptions at every oncologists office. Business is business.

Dear Tony,

Man, way to go!  I am really happy for you.  I think that it calls for another bottle of wine, but it's better that you drink it with the love of your life.  And that ain't me!  You and Ruthie have some fun and joy.

Regards,

Bill
