I am new here. My name is Keith Langer and i am 54 years old. I will make a long story short.  My psa rose from 3.2 to 5 and my doctor reccomended a needle biopsy and ultrasound...  it showed a 1 mm tumor.. gleason was 3+4=7...  After much research i elected to have proton therapy at loma linda. I am very fortunate as i live in an diego. The treatments were a no-brainer but the daily drive 80 miles each way began to grow old very quickly.
i recently went to get my 10 week psa done, and to my horror it actually rose to 6.1. i was very upset, but Dr. Nemihaus who is part of there sun city location tells me that this is quite normal especially in younger men who are still producing hormones... regardless i am very uneasy and am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same results? he suggested i wait a month and retest...  any suggestions would be very helpful
thank you
keith langer

Hi Keith,
Over the years I have found that PSA readings and conclusions there from, do not follow a consistent pattern for all of us. So I tend to support your doctor's view regarding your PSA. Without ADT (hormones), it takes a while for radiation (of whatever type) to lower PSA. Then of course there is always the issue of PSA bounce (do some searching). So hang in there and hopefully your next PSA will be trending in the direction that you want.
