Well, I had a prostate biopsy two days ago so I guess I've applied to join the club.  Of course I hope everything comes out well and I don't get in the club.  The urologist said a local pathologist will do an initial read of the slides by next week, and then they will be sent out for a second opinion.  The waiting is already difficult.

Thanks to all of you for your posts - I have been lurking here since my PSA came back in early October.  I have learned so much about prostate disease from this forum and you have eased many of my fears.  If I have to face PC at least I've got a little knowledge now.

If the biopsy turns out bad, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.  It is nice to know you gentlemen (and ladies) are out there.

Age 49
PSA:
Feb 2006 - 2.1
Feb 2007 - 2.9
Oct 2008 - 3.8
Nov 2008 - 4.2

DRE - GP said he felt something; Urologist said he didn't feel anything.
Biopsy done 15 December.  Awaiting results.

My Father: DX with PC in 1994 at age 62.  Had already spread outside prostate.  Radiation, hormones.  It came back in 2006 - chemotherapy treatment.  He is now under Hospice care.

Hi DC,
Needless to say you don't need to be told about the ramifications of missing the opportunity to catch this early. I am heart broken when I read stories like the one your signature line tells us about your father. He did well for 12 years and that is a testimonial as well. When we think we're clear, it can come back with a vengence. My very best to you and your family in these times.

You have a good signature, I hope you don't have to use it here, but if you have the disease, this is the best place I have found for compassionate and caring support. Please post those results...

Had a Urologist find nodules. GP couldn't find anything BUT admitted that Asians like himself with short stubby fingers aren't the best to do a DRE....Second Urologist found the nodules.

It still blows my mind thinking about what might have happened/not happened if I had gone to the GP first for a physical. (psa was 1.3)

Hope you get to cancel your membership here with a clean biopsy, but if not, you have come to the best place on the net. Wonderful bunch of men/women here, good answers, and you can talk about all your fears and fealings anytime you want.

Sorry to hear about your father, that kind of news would get to anyone here on a regular basis. My best hopes for him and your family.

Hi DC:

I will hope for the best re your biopsy and will be happy if you don't want/need to join our club!  However, in case of bad news, if you want some advice about docs or options in the greater DC area, pls. bump up this thread and ask. I live in N. VA and did a lot of research and spoke with several docs in our area.

Good luck!
