Heh you guys all got off cheap, well except Tony. My insurance was billed about 144K for my proton treatment. I haven't been around here posting much but just got my latest PSA done and thought I would pop in and say Hi. Latest results are in my sig.
 

54 years old (55 currently)

PSA 5.6 on 3/20/07

DRE: Negative

Biopsy on 4/20/07 

Results 4/25/07:

3 out of 12 cores positive, 2 on the right lobe with 5% adenocarcinoma Gleason 3+3, 1 on the left lobe 10% adenocarcinoma Gleason 3+4, overall Gleason graded 7 Cancer T1C.  After web research discovered Proton Beam Therapy and called Loma Linda. Completed consultation with Dr. Luu on 7/5/2007 and started treatment at Loma Linda on 7/26/07. Completed treatment 44 on 9/28/07. 0 treatments remain. Side Effects are zero. 1st PSA result on January 28th is 1.1. PSA result on July 17th, 2008 .73 . PSA result on January 22nd, 2009 .66 18 months removed from start of treatment.

Hi Jay,
How are things? Good to see the great news. I copied this to the front page for others to see the cost but also clear effectiveness of Proton Therapy and mostly our old friend. Stay close and thanks for sharing the news!

Pre-op PSA was 19.8 : Surgery at The City of Hope on February 15, 2007
Geason 4+3=7, Stage pT3b, N0, Mx
Positive Margins (PM), Extra Prostatic Extension (EPE) : Bilateral Seminal vesicle invasion (SVI)
HT began in May, '07 with Lupron and Casodex 50mg (2 Year ADT)
IMRT radiation for 38 Treatments ending August 3, '07
Current PSA (January 13, 2009): <0.1

I had read that someone without insurance was billed in the neighborhood of $60,000 for proton and that seemed outrageous.  No wonder we need to repair our system of medical delivery.  Just don't seem fair... shocked
PSA up to 4.7 July 2006 , nodule noted during DRE

Aggressive Gleason 4+4=8  right side
DaVinci Surgery  January 2007
Post op confirms gleason 4+4=8
No extension or invasion identified
Few continence problems
PSA 90 day (-.01)  , (6 month -.01) , (9 month +.02) , (1 year +.02) ( 18 months +.02) (two years+.02)
One side nerve spared
success but some plaque with bimix 
born in 1941
