I had surgery 3 weeks ago and would like to know if there is some guideline concerning the use of VED after surgery. I feel well and have no discomfort of any kind. I'm also almost continent (One pad during the day). I've read on several posts, that it is good to experiment with the VED on a daily basis just to keep my shrinking guy active. Any suggestions?

Ed,

I started using one right after I got my catheter out (2 weeks post surgery) -- mostly because it arrived the same day and I just figured I had to give it a try!

So far so good and yeah is nice to see Mr Sleepy standing at a sort of drunken attention at least twice a day.

I use the Encore Pump -- the one with the 150 hp battery-powered turbo boost electirc pump (2 AA batteries included) ;-))

(Was no advice from my Uro on using this -- and, me being a bad patient, I did not ask when to start).

Biopsy Nov2008 1 of 12 cores 5%, Gleason 3+3 - Sona showed 140+ cc (110 grams post op) prostate size.
open RP surgery 02/03/9, Nerve sparing both sides, 1 day in hospital, Day 4 first BM,
Post-surgery Pathlogy Report - All margins clear - No Invasive spread - no change in Gleason score.
Cath out on 2/18/9, passed a STONE within hours. To be analyzed by doc.
Using pump (encore) daily since catheter out -- now and then using Levitra and Viagra bummed from doc.

Thanks Jim, I'll order my VED and start pumping.

I started using a VED as soon as the catheter was gone, also. I got one from over the counter at "Priscilla's". You may find that you will need two rings as opposed to one to stay hard. There is a list of all the companies at the Phoenix5 web site, also a lot of info. After getting the hang of using the VED, I was able to increase my length from 15 cm to 19 cm when pumped up. This took some time.

I second what Dwight (and others) have said about the extra ring being very effective. I had a freebie ring from A&E (got little beeds inside it even!) and although I am sure it won't last long before it falls apart it is just the right Extra i need.. That is a consideration since you see the fancy rings (with the side loops) cost ridiculous big bucks from the VED vendors. So whatever you have laying around oughta work.
