My husband is one week out and is dying for a cup of caffine coffee.  Anyone have any thought on this?  I can't find any information on diet.  He's avoided caffine, spicy food, fatty food, and is drinking lots of water and grape juice.
62 year old with Multiple Sclerosis currently in remission
Last PSA taken in 2008 was normal
November, upon exam abnormality felt in Prostate
Biopsy taken December 10
6 samples taken
3 positive for Prostatic Adenocarcinoma
3 Negative
Gleason Score of 3+3=6
Grade T-2
Looking into DaVinci Surgery, no decision made yet.  Update, not a good candidate for surgery because of MS.
Saw a Oncologist who suggested 8 weeks of Radiation.  Not a good option because of the distance.  Would need to live away from home for 8 weeks.
Had a MRI which showed no spread outside the prostate.
Had brachytherapy done at Oregon Health Sciences on March 20th.  No ill effects, pretty easy procedure.

Hi Duckfan:

My docs gave me no dietary restrictions but told me that I might have some urgency or frequency with caffiene, alcohol and/or spicy foods.  I tried them all during the first 3 months when I was on Flomax.  I had no issue with spicy foods, but both alcohol and caffiene caused me to "go" more frequently.  Now that I'm off Flomax I have my diet coke (with caffiene), drink alcohol in moderation like I used to do and still enjoy my spicy foods....all with no problems whatsoever.

So...why don't you give the caffiene a try (in moderation) and see what happens.

Hope all else is going well!

Brachytherapy December 9, 2008.  73 Iodine-125 seeds.  Procedure went great, catheter out before I went home, only minor discomfort.  Regular activities resumed, everything continues to function normally as of 3/6/09.

Thanks for the reply. I'll tell him that and he can decide what he wants to do. I can't see that one cup of caffiene would be harmful but it depends on how his body reacts.

He's doing good. His lower back was killing him for about three days but it's better now. We never know if it's his MS or just muscles. Probably a combination of both. He walks strange because of foot drop and that torques his back. At least he's still walking and we're awfully thankful for that.

Duckfan:

During and after my IMRT, my Doc suggested that caffeine and alcohol might cause increased urinary frequency. He didn’t forbid them. I never gave up my morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Life’s small pleasures you know……..
