Recent prostectimy

Right now that seems to be the least of my problems.  I had my cath removed after 2 weeks.   I was able to urinate just fine.   After three days though....I peed, and there was not blood in my urine stream, but more like urine in my blood.  I completely shut down and was sent to the ER.   I was recathed, and they found a bad bladder infection.   They put me on an IV of Leviqun and sent me home with a 10 day supply.

I kept the new cath in for 1 week.  After it was removed, within 2 days of it being out this time, (and being able to void with no problem), I locked up again. Again I went back to the ER, where I was cathed, and the infection was still there.  They put me on Sulfamethe.  

My surgeon did a scope on me yesterday and everything looks good.   I have a new cath in me until next week.

My surgeon mentioned that if I continue to lock up after the cath is removed, I may have to do intermittent self cathing...possibly for the rest of my life.  He did say though that the infection could have been locking it up, and things may be just fine when they remove the cath next Friday.

No one I've talked to has ever heard of this before.   This was never mentioned as a possible outcome. 

Does anyone know anything about this?  Has this happened before?

(spelling might not be correct) Its an xray of the bladder etc to look for leaks before removing the cath. I had my cath in for five weeks to help complete the healing process.

Sorry to hear of your problem.  I did not have this following an operation but let me explain.  I had a seed implant and that cured the cancer but about 10 years later i got up one night to go and couldn't,  I went to th uro who implanted the seeds and on a weekly basis i would go to his office for treatment and they would fill me full of water and everything would work for about 3 hous and then lock up.  This went on for abut three months and the he suggested i have a laser treatment which the nurses called the blue light special.  That was absolutely the wrong thing to do because i then leaked all the time.  this went on for three years and to shorten the story wound up having a AUS put in at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

I would suggest you change doctors because if someone tells you you will have to self cath forever means he doesnt know what he is doing.  Fint the best uro you can and ask him a LOT of questions before you let him do anything.  There are too many so called doctors out there who don't know what they are doing.  Don't do what i did and suffer for three years.  Hope this helps.
