  Hello
I am 6 months in recovery from the open rp  last psa was 0.05 that made me feel good, no pads now for
3 month but have to watch a sneeze or cough and some times gettingout of a chair or lifting but all in all doing  good .
Ok  now for the questions , just got a pump yesterday , a good one  with a vacume gauge and so forth , so my question is how often should I use it , how much vacume  and  so forth ? can I make things worse by using this thing ? I tried Viagra 100 mg and nothing  so got the pump on my owen to see if we can get this thing a working again  my only fear is that it may make this worse if I use it to much or to high a vacume  so please any advice would be very helpfull .

The idea behind the pump is to get blood to flow through mr johnson and keep him heathy. You should be able to pump him up to a fully arroused size....

Overall Heath Condition - Good
PSA - July 2007 & Jan 2008 -> 1.3

The pump has a self-releasing vacuum valve, that will prevent over-vacuuming and damage. If you haven't had any erections in a while, I suggest you start slowly. First, some maintenance to be done. Trim the pubic hair down to about 1/4 inch length. Get some good quality waterbased lube, don't use oil based ;like Vasoline. When ready, apply the pump and make sure you get a good seal on the belly. Slowly pump the device, making sure you can feel a vacuum seal. You may find that scrotum or belly fat may get pulled into the pump. Unless your pump came with reducing cushion ring to reduce the size of the opening, you will just have to learn to tolerate that. No real damage can be done, but it can be uncomfortable. At first don't attempt to apply a penis ring, just pump up (actually it's a vacuum, so suck it up...lol) some, maybe half way and get a feel for the technique. Take a few times of pumping at half size, then slowly work up to a full erection, taking a few times to reach it. If the penis hasn't had any erections in a while, you want to slowly stretch the tissue as you pump. A good routine is to pump up to full size 3 times each session, holding the full erection for a couple minutes each time, and do the same twice daily. You can't cause any harm from overuse, in fact the more the better, and it will/may also help in the recovery of any lost 'size/length' that may have occurred. Using the pump twice daily to infuse the tissue with fresh blood is one of the really important things you need to be doing in the ED recovery department. Another thing is musterbation- this really helps to kick start things, if things are gonna be kickstarted. You may recover quickly or it may be months or even a couple years, but you will need to work at it to recover the ability. It really is a use it or lose it thing...The other is a 25mg or 50 mg. daily dose of Viagra or any of the others generic pills to help with blood flow into the pubic and penile area. There, more than you may have ever wanted to know about penis pumps...turn

It's hard to add much to James's good advice, but I will add this:
1. It takes practice to master the techniques required, so don't give up at the first difficulties.
2. If it hurts, ease off.
3. Persist.
Pre-op:
Age 63 at diagnosis, now 64.
No symptoms; PSA 5.7; Gleason 4+5=9; cancer in 4 of 12 cores.
Operation:
Non-nerve sparing RRP on 7 March 2008.
Two nights in hospital; catheter out after 7 days.
Post-op:
Continent; no pads needed from the get-go.
Pathology showed organ confined and negative margins. Gleason downgraded to 4+4=8.
PSAs:
6-week : <0.05
7-month: <0.05
13-month: 0.07 (start of a trend?)
ED:
After a learning curve, Bimix injections (0.2ml) are working well. VED also works but we find it inferior to Bimix.

James is a master of the pump. But start immediately, as he said. Shrinkage is caused by atrophying smooth muscle - not the shortened urethra as you might think. Keeping the tissues plumped, stretched and infused with fresh blood is the best thing you can do. Also, jacking off everyday will help too. You will notice that at the point of orgasm and shortly after, you will have closer to a real erection. This is a good sign that things are trying to work. As things improve, work on edging to keep the natural erection time to really kick in.

Saved both nerve bundles.
Path Report: Stage T2cNxMx
-Gleason (3+3)6
-totally contained to prostate,
-10% involvement in L & R Mid lobes
PSA 0 at nine months.
Pad free on March 14 - (10 weeks.) Never a problem since.
ED - Took 100mg viagra every night. for several months
Totally usable erections at 10 weeks, which disappeared over the course of a month or two.
ED bounce is what they call it. Now, at one year, ED is fine with viagra.
One year PSA - undectable!

What John said. I started using the pump 1 month after surgery. Some might say that was too soon but I had no problem doing that. I pump every day, sometimes twice. I try to get a full erection then I ease up and repeat it again.
