Has anyone noticed an increase in their libido after surgery?   I had my surgery April 15.   I am finally starting (hopefully) to move on the right track...but my libido is going nuts.   This may seem like a good thing...but it isn't right now, because I am worried about if the orgasim will be painful, or if it could cause more complications (I've already had a lot, and am still weary.)

At 5 weeks out it is probably safe to try. A couple of points: it is possible to have an organism even without an erection, you may have urine leakage (some have reported considerable) at this stage, after surgery all your Os will be dry because the prostate produced the fluid. As with anything, listen to your body and stop if there is any hint of pain.

If I may suggest, a part of your libido may be from the uncertainty of where your responses will go from here. No matter what happens now the chances are very good that you will be able to add functionality to go with your libido as you continue to recover.
Age at diagnosis 66, PSA 5.5
Biopsy 12/08 12 cores, 8 positive
Gleason 3 + 4 = 7
CAT scan 1/09 negative, Bone scan 1/09 negative

Robotic surgery 03/03/09 Catheter Removed 03/08/09
Post surgical pathology report. Lymph nodes negative, Seminal vesicles negative
Surgical margins positive, Capsular penetration extensive Gleason 4 + 3 = 7
At 6 weeks: 1 pad/day, 1 pad/night -- mostly dry at night.

Hi jeff,

It could be you're experiencing an increased libido because you haven't had an orgasm.  I would think you're far enough out from surgery to have one without it compromising your healing.  Maybe try a self-induced orgasm to see how it feels.  You don't need an erection to have an orgasm.

Know exactly what you are saying. I was done April 14th. For me, the orgasm was the trick. The first one was just a fleeting feeling. The second one was much better. The third one was sort of normal, but dry of course. No pain, just some pleasure.

My spouse is glad I did something, because I was bugging the heck out of her. Can;t wait til next week when I go in for 6 week check up. Hopefully we can talk about getting an E !

Yes, I had the same thing happen. And it hasn't reduced itself at all. Even a year after surgery.

A more common complaint has been the loss of libido after surgery.

A new thing for me is having noctural erections now for hours every night. It seems like the one year anniversary of the surgery promoted some additional healing.

Greetings, Jeff.  I am a little over a year post surgery.  I don't always know if it is increased libido or just needing to know I can get an erection.  I need more stimulation now and my wonderful wife is always willing to do what is needed.  We don't always use it but sometimes I just need to know I can.  David

wow what a problem. What I would give to have some libido. I say that in just because I can't get an erection so I suppose I am happy not to have a libido.
Take it slow and easy and you will be find. Enjoy life my friend
