Had my sling installed 6/16/09. Sore as hell for over a week, but things started feeling better this past weekend. Felt good enough to go with my wife to a couple of stores. Didn't seem that we walked that far, but it must've been too much as I got what felt like a rash down there. Asked the doc about it at my 2 week followup visit. He said it looked like a yeast infection and wrote me a scrip for a cream. Been a couple of days now and not a lot of relief. Do these things take a while to clear up?

Glad to hear from you with an update.  Seems like any infection or rash takesd twice as long as we expect it to, must be the 'making me miserable' factor..

Plus one on the miserable factor :).

On to more important things...it seems as though the sling worked regarding leakage. No pads since the installation.

TMI Warning:

There are very minor indications of leaks, but I'm not circumcised. Although I try to get every last drop, sometimes there is residual that may be coming out later. I cannot do anything for a total of 6 weeks, so I can't say if stress will induce a leak. I'm hopeful that this will all be worth the trouble and I'll be leak-free in the end.

Did the cream for a couple of days. It got sticky toward the end of the day. Hopefully I left it on long enough if it really was an infection. Started with good old baby powder the next day and have been in a state of relief ever since.

Edit to add this:

Of those who have had a sling installed, have you noticed that the urine stream gets stronger over time? Mine fluctuates during the day. I'm wondering if it becomes more consistent after months.

Dawgfan, Its been about a month since you had the Male Sling installed. Is it still working and are you dry? I'm considering having the Male Advance Sling done after about a year if I'm still not dry. I would like to keep in touch with you regarding this procedure. Can you keep us posted on how you are doing? Thanks

RFP,

I'm still dry - no pads since surgery. Not allowed to do much of anything for 6 weeks because I might pull something loose. Trying my best to behave. Gotta run...more later.

Are there any specific questions? I'd be glad to discuss anything.

Yes, I do have some questions regarding the benefit of the procedure versus my current situation. I am 18 months out from surgery and I have recently stopped using pads. This does not mean that I don't leak. I still leak some during the day but it is a small enough amount that it evaporates quickly. I would guess that it is similar to post-urination dribbles that are common without surgery. Not a big deal but it is the feeling of having to clinch when standing, sometimes feeling a dribble when I bend the wrong way or sit on the edge of a chair and the almost constant feeling of dribbling, even when I am not.

So, what was your condition pre-surgery? Do you release a small amount, now, or are you constantly dry? Has your urinary stream decreased? If so, is it getting stronger as you heal?

Any advice would be appreciated.

TSFFZ,

I never stopped using a light per day. My leaks were minor, yet warranted a pad to keep from a visible embarrassing situation. I did not dribble prior to surgery, which is why it was so hard to put up with the post surgery leaking. The ED thing was never a big deal for me so I got to concentrate on the 'other' side effect. Post surgery I leaked most often when I spread my legs to climb up into our SUV, sat "Indian style" on the floor, lifted certain things, finished a shower and got to enjoy being fresh for about a minute before leaking some on the bathmat :(, and sometimes for no reason at all other than to soil a fresh pair of underwear :). As much as I told myself it was a good trade off vs having cancer, it still gets under your skin.

Now I am almost completely dry. Minor traces at the end of the day indicate residual urine fell out, but not leakage as before. See earlier portion of this thread for the reason. I am padless and planning on staying that way. My stream has decreased in the mornings, which surprises me and the doc. It does increase during the day. There is a 'different' feeling when you 'have to go' - I haven't found the words to best describe the sensation. It's not a pain but rather a slight ache along the urethra prior to urination. I also have to go frequently. This has been going on since the original prostatectomy. I joke that I have the bladder of a 5 year old. My beer drinking buddies are used to it. Everyone knows that I know where all the restrooms are when we go anywhere.

Regarding the sling surgery, I will be 5 weeks out next Tuesday. Healing well with no complications. Hair is growing back and that always causes itching. Baby powder is great. Still numb along incision site and lower part of scrotum. I hate that word, anybody know a better one?

Feel free to ask anything. I'll check back when I can. I'm sure there's stuff I am forgetting to mention.

I had the AdVance sling done on 31 May 2011 and am now in my 6th post-op day. Things look encouraging. dawgfan, if you're still listening, how are things coming up on two years post sling for you?

I had the Advance sling installed on Jan 10, 2011 - almost 5 months. I love it- except for the loonng pee time. But "dry" is worth it.
