Hello All....I'm new to this forum but have been reading some interesting and helpful posts. I had prostate surgery about 4 years ago and I still suffer incontinence issues. I wear a full adult diaper (Depends) every day and sometimes leakage is worse, especially when I am active. I have stress incontinence and mostly suffer when bending down or coughing or sneezing. I'm seriously considering having the Advance Male Sling procedure done up to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, where I had my laproscopic robotic surgery done (Dr. Jean Joseph). Dr. Mayer would be the doctor doing the procedure. Can some of you offer opinions and background information about this procedure--anyone have this done recently and how has it worked for you? Thanks for any information.  -Bill

Hi Bill,
Welcome to HealingWell. I am sorry you have had such a long go with incontinence. We have had varying results in such cases here. My friend KW was 43 when stuck with an open faucet, as he called it. He eventually tried the sling, then the AUS procedure which was successful for him. He didn't wait so long to address it with intervention, but he sure did endure quite a ride with it. Many here will gave better advice than I can. After surgery, HT, and radiation, I am still doing quite well with incontinence. Again, welcom. Perhaps adding your age and hopefully good cancer stats, may help others to help you...

Bill,  Just curious about the actual rate of your leaking.  I was using 6-8 full depends Guards for Men.  I basically had no control at all.  I could feel the leaking all the time while standing or moving around.  As for my Sling Adventure I knew going into it I would probably not get total relief but I was thinking if I could get down to one or two pads a day I would be happy considering where I was before!  Unfortunately I did not get any long term relief.  After the proceedure I did notice some significant change.  But as time went on and the swelling all went down the leaking came back to where it was.

I will say that for me, the proceedure was more painful and the recovery was longer than what I was expecting from the information that was on the video from the manufacturer.

Check out my links below to get a more detailed story on my Journey.

Feel free to send me a e-mail if you would like more information. I am even willing to talk on the phone if you wish.

    Good Luck,

    KW

I just had the sling installed 6/16/09. I created a couple of threads about it. Feel free to contact me in the manner you are comfortable with if you'd like additional info.
