Catalona. He was also the pioneer of the PSA.

I concur, Catalona. Google him and you will be impressed. One of my friends here in Ga. had Dr Catalona do his surgery 6 or 7 yrs. ago when he was still in St. Lewis and loved him. Good luck.

I got a recomendation for Greg Zagaja, M.D. Associate Professor of Urology University of Chicago.  He is suppose to be one of the best in the country.  I haven't met or spoken to him.  I just heard from an knowledable source.

Zagaja and Catalona are great. NorthWestern is where I would send a frind in Chicago. There are several good surgeons there and the prostate cancer program is very well recognized...

Dr. Robert Nadler of Northwestern University/Hospital (he's head of it's minimally invasive surgery practice group) was my Urologist/Surgeon when I was confronted with the news last year that I had prostate cancer.  My relationship with Nadler has been good and I recommend him and the team of specialists at Northwestern - because all treatment areas are represented amongst those specialists (oncologists, da Vinci surgeons, etc.).  We're fortuate, those of us living in Chicago . . . because we have such an extensive network of excellent specialists and medical facilities available to us.  By the way:  I would not be too impressed with a particular Urologist/Surgeon based primarily upon the number - high number - of procedures attributed to him.  I think there is a minimum number of procedures in any one area which indicate proficiency, but on the other side of the coin a high number, depending upon the time frame they are being reported for, can be a sign to stay away from a particular Urologist/Surgeon or medical team.  Best wishes for your friend and his challenges ahead.

My husband and I consulted with the top surgeons in the U.S. with pre-surgical testing at NCI.   He had surgery with Dr. Catalona.  In the end, all agreed experience is what counts more than the type of procedure.  Surgery was late June and he was completely continent upon catheter removal.  Dr. C does not have much bedside manner, but his skill level speaks volumes.  Good luck to you...
