John's urologist called this morning (on a Saturday) to say that John's PSA is back down to UNDETECTABLE! I think this has only been the second time in my life that I was absolutely speechless.

Of course, we are not going forward with RT at this time but will have the CT scan of John's chest on Tuesday as planned because we need to investigate the spot. But, our urologist said that in light of John's PSA (or lack of it at this point), the spot - whatever it may be - is not related to PCa but we have to check it out.

The urologist already spoke to our rad onc and told her the good news so, for now, we do nothing. The next PSA is in early December - if it still comes back as undetectable, we go back to a 3 month follow-up.

I wanted to share this with all of you for two reasons: to share the good news, and to let those of you who are in similar situations know that miracles do happen! Take heart.

That is great news.  What has he been eating??????  Or is he just mean and the cancer ran out of his body?

On another note I got arrested in the girls bathroom at Wal-Mart the other day.  After the Dr. told me I was undetectable at my 1 year mark and I thought he meant nobody could see me.   How stupid....

Sephie,

I can't hardly believe your post. You got the miracle that we both knew was possible in theory but didn't really expect. I am so very happy for you and John, he deserved a break, and he's getting it. What a relief to know this.

Oh WOW! I don't know what the lesson from this is -- perhaps as mundane as don't trust a single PSA test or perhaps as mysterious as miracles happen. But whatever, we rejoice with you and John and wish you a long string of zeros to follow.

I presume that you were in the girl's bathroom because the Boy's doesn't have a pad dispenser. On the other hand, if it is because you completely lack ED we envy your criminal record!

Thanks for all your enthusiastic responses! This has been quite a day - unexpected joys abound! Not only did we find out my my John's latest PSA was back down to zero, but I also got good news about my best girlfriend who was worried about an issue with her mammogram - she's fine! Now, if we can just got those Yankees to clinch the playoffs...

Guys, you are truly some of the best people I know. It really gave me great pleasure to share this good news with all of you - in fact, after our family, you were the next to know. I sincerely hope that there will be more of this kind of news on the boards.

I'll let you all know how the chest CT scan goes on Tuesday.

PS to Chris R: You're a hoot! Took my husband a few seconds to "get" your little joke but it did bring a smile to his face!

Kelli, hope my good news gives you - and everyone here - reason for hope.

You all continue in our prayers.

Sephie, I finally have something to disagree with you, how my beloved Red Sox got cheated is beyond me, and the, yuck, Yankees ending up with a better record.

Despite that, I will remain in awe and respect for John's miracle and your friends good news. I will share openly in any one's news, good or bad.

David ... Red Sox are dirty words in my house (at least for John)...he's a died-hard Yankees fan, growing up in The Bronx in the shadow of the old Yankee Stadium. In fact, he's watching the game now.

Awe and respect are appropriate descriptions for the news we received today. There's no explanation that we or our doctor know of except "it happens". On a more somber note, we are not for one minute letting our guard down and are emotionally prepared if further treatment is in our future.

Yes, Sephie, one can never let their guard down on the evil PC monster. It lurks and travels to see whom it may devour. But for now, and hopefully a long, long time, John can continue to heal body and soul, and you will have years more to enjoy each other. That would be my personal wish for you guys.

But the Red Sox, sorry ,been a die hard fan since about 1968, that's never going to change with me. The curse of the Bambino was broken in my lifetime, and that was good enough for me.

Hi Sephie,
I wonder why your numbers only have one place after the decimal. Does the lab you use have finer resolution? I specifically asked the lab resolution before I decided where to take my first 3 month sample. Of course more digits do not necessarily mean more accuracy but it can't hurt.

Anyway congrats! You will both sleep well tonight.

Great news Sephie. It always pays to double check. I hope the lung spot is nothing at all.

Jeff, our urologist, regular MD and rad onc are not believers in the ultra sensitive PSA test ... they all said they do not pay attention to any numbers more than one decimal place to the right. John has asked for a more detailed PSA but our urologist's office doesn't use that assay and neither does his regular MD.

I go back and forth as to whether I would want to know the smaller details of his PSA - I have seen too many posts here about guys worrying because their PSA went up from 0.04 to 0.06. I don't think I could live with that knowledge and I think it would make John more anxious than he needs to be. So, we remain with the "standard" PSA test.

Sephie,
If you look at the blood work order you will see 2 boxes for the PSA "Screening" (the standard type with 1 decimal place or "Diagnostic" which as 2 or more. It seems to me knowledge is always better. IMO, when you are measuring small things you should use a ruler with finer resolution. Leave it up to you to decide whether you want to round to the next digit. If you want to call 0.04 a 0.0 and 0.06 a 0.1 fine. You are willing to accept going from 0.0 to 0.1
I would check to see if the lab you use even has the capability. It's possible your lab does not and that is why your Docs are glossing over it.
I'm willing to bet as long as the lab has the capability there isn't a guy here who wouldn't want to know the truth.
Good luck,
Jeff
