Can one really tell if one has agressive PC from the PSA and PSA-free tests?

I am not yet dx., but I am hoping that even if I have PC it will be more of the indolent kind (see my numbers below).

But that brings up another question. How does one know if a PC dx. is the indolent or aggressive kind? Almost all of you seem to go on to treatment (usually surgery). I would probably make the same choice. Yet I keep reading how so many of the P-cancers would never have harmed the host. But I guess we have no way of knowing?

Mel (still in learning mode, asking questions!)
PSA-- 3/08--2.90;  8/09--4.01; 11/09--4.19 (Free PSA 24%), this after 45 days on cipro!

History of BPH/prostatitis.

Awaiting results of my PCA-3 test which will determine whether a biopsy is in my immediate future

Mel, your PSA rise is about at the same rate as mine was, but my free PSA was much lower, around 10%. Your numbers really don't look that bad, even if you have PC. I think you're catching it very early, even if you have it.

Mel, without a biopsy showing a bonifide dx, no serious way to answer your question, and even with full biopsy numbers, you can get a feel for your answer, but knowing indolent from agreesive PC goes way beyond the sheer numbers. We have guys with low numbers but agressive acting cases, and those with high numbers that are doing well.
