Well today marked the beginning of my next journey down the PCa pathway.
The Radiation folks called this morning to tell me the machine was down and my treatments would have to start tomorrow. Told them that was fine with me. I have the next 8 weeks blocked at 1:20pm anyway. The told me I would only be there 7 weeks plus the 2 days missed because Christmas and New Years fall on a Friday. Said my schedule called for 35 treatments.
So I took my wife in for her treatment at 1:20pm today and was in the waiting area with her when the tech came out and told me the machine was up and running. She said I could go ahead and start today if I wanted to. Told her yep, let's get started.
So from time of dropping shorts to time of pulling them back up was 27 minutes total. The first two slides through the machine were for alignment and one pass through for the radiation. The machine they use does a CT scan to make sure the alignment is correct and then another pass delivers the radiation. I don't know how others have received IMRT, but this seemed like a pretty slick operation to me. So I guess my tattoos were well placed, because they never had to reposition my body at all.
If all goes this smoothly, I will only post on Friday's for the week's treatments. The tech said that I would not start seeing any side effects until about
2 weeks. Said that usually they only see a slight burning during urination and possibly some loose stool. I think I could live with that.
All in all, everything went well.
