Obviously he has a ways to go before he needs to hit the panic button, but the rate of increase is a concern.

I would say the next PSA in three months will be inmportant to see if there is a trend.

I prefer the terminology of <0.1 is a zero.

PSA 01/07 1.2, PSA 01/08 1.9, PSA 01/09 2.5
BIOPSY 02/24/09  PCa DX age 52
Right: 3+3=6, 3/6 cores 10% involved,PNI-Y
Left:  3+3=6, 1/7 cores <5% involved,PNI-N
LARP 04/09/09 nerve sparing. Final pathology:
GS 3+4=7, Margins uninvolved, 2 lymph nodes negative
Catheter out 04/17,1st no-pad day 05/03
Followup PSA 05/28/09,08/20/09,12/08/09 <0.1

Gold, any PSA that begins with 0.0 is a good one in my book. Fluctuations from 0.02 to 0.04 doesn't appear to be anything to worry about. While an ultrasensitive PSA test has value after surgery, it is this kind of fluctuation that creates confusion and panic. I wouldn't worry about these numbers at all.
Husband diagnosed in 2/2008 at age 57 with stage T1c. Robotic surgery performed 3/2008. Stage upgraded to T3a (single small EPE in posterior left). Perineural tumor infiltration present. Apex margin, bladder neck and SV negative. Final Gleason 3+4. PSA: 0.0 til July 2009. August 2009- 0.1, September 0.3, October back to 0.0, December 0.0. Thank you God!

I agree with Sephie above. First, I have been told there is no such thing as a true .00 or .000. The true definition of a "zero" is <.10.

So, a .09 is still a zero, and a .01 is still a zero. Your numbers are well in the range of "zero". There can be micro flucuations within the tests themselves, and it can even vary from day to day.

As long as it stays under .10, consider yourself fortunate.

They would not consider any kind of recurrance until you have 3 consecutive rises above the .10 mark.

So for now, wouldn't let it disturb you, go and enjoy the holidays.
