Dr Myers is in Australia at the moment so I took the opportunity to attend his presentation at the Garvin Institute in Sydney. I must say I was mightily impressed by the man and his approach to PCa. He struck me as a pretty humble sort of bloke whose main interest is the welfare of his patients (particularly those with resistant disease). His stress on diet and treating each patient as an individual requiring a tailored approach to their treatment seems to be a somewhat refreshing and welcome approach by a doctor. I am pleased I went.

Billy,

Glad you had the chance to hear the man in person, what a unique opportunity, as often as his name has even been mentioned here at HW.

It might be well after the fact for me, but I need to read up on the man and his accomplishments.

I would love to hear him speak. His books were a ray of light in a very dark time for our family. Did he mention any new research or protocols?

Doting,
His main emphasis was on treatment involving hormone therapy and chemotherapy and of course diet. He is an avid fan of what is known as the mediteranean diet. He feels diet is an important part of the fight when undergoing chemo. He opposes the consumption of dairy, processed and red meats. An audience member asked him what exactly was the problem with the consumption of red meat. He suggested that chemical changes took place in the surface of the meat when exposed to high temperatures and this may be where the problem lay. He quite rightly pointed out that there is no long lived population group in the world that has red meat as a major part of its food intake. He is a great fan of pomegranate as studies strongly suggest it has a very beneficial effect on PCa. On a side note when asked about the use of modified citrus pectin he dismissed it as a waste of money.
