Drove back to Richmond for my first follow up since surgery on the 3rd. Doctor Morgan was very pleased with the report and my recovery. Surgical staples and catheter removed (my opinion is these were easier (painwise) than the removal of JP). I'm a bit concerned about the Perineural Invasion being present but was so taken by the rest of the report I forgot to ask the Doctor's opinion, I'll have to wait until Monday to make the call to the Doctor on that one. Here's the report on my dual nerve sparing open procedure:

Prostate Size: 39gms

Lymph Node sampling: No lymph nodes present (Doctor, while in surgery, made decision not to take any nodes)

Histologic Grade: Gleason Score 3+3(6)

Percentage of Prostate Involved by Tumor: 5%

Extraprostatic Extension: Not Identified

Seminal Veicle Invasion: Not Identified

Margins: Uninvolved by invassive carcinoma

Lymphovascular Invasion: Not Identified

Perineural Invasion: Present

Pathologic Stage: pT2c pNX pMX

I go back March 19th for my first post op PSA test.

Cheers Mates!

I would say this is an outstanding report. Perineural invasion is a very common finding. Many doctors don't pay much attention to it. The margins, Gleason, and seminal vesical invasion are the biggies.

I will guess the nomograms will be very kind to you.

Good luck in the weeks to come.

A great report. Forget the perineural invasion (invasion of the nerves within the gland)...............it is almost always there. Low Gleason, low percentage involved and negative margins...you are "da man" yeah

Defender, your path report is great...don't worry about perineural invasion as this is very common. I hope you continue healing well, and stay with us through your recovery.
Husband diagnosed in 2/2008 at age 57 with stage T1c. Robotic surgery performed 3/2008. Stage upgraded to T3a (single small EPE in posterior left). Perineural tumor infiltration present. Apex margin, bladder neck and SV negative. Final Gleason 3+4. PSA: 0.0 til July 2009. August 2009- 0.1, September 0.3, October back to 0.0, December 0.0. Thank you God!

You have much to celebrate my friend. Awesome report and I see no reason why you should not believe you are cured. Now go and enjoy all the things in life you took for granted.
