What has anyone experienced regarding starting exercise following sling surgery? I just had a Coloplast Virtue Sling implanted two weeks ago. Got the typical don't lift anything more than 5 lbs (gallon of milk) for 4-6 weeks. Walking is OK but nothing else. I walk a little each day on treadmill but only 3/4 mile or so. Am back to work full time but office sitting in overstuffed chair so like to exercise at home in evenings.
I have heard that one of the big problems with some that have had AdVance Slings (not anchored into place) is that they get to feeling good and then start doing things too fast and end up messing up the sling before it heals into place.
What recommendations have doctors made and what has anyone experienced with ramping up exercise activity. What type and at what time post sling surgery? Has anyone run into complications because of too much or wrong type of activity?

I should also have included anyone that has had the AUS artificial sphincter surgery for this topic question. Although this a difference procedure it would be interesting to know what exercise is or is not recommended for AUS.

Doesn't: "Got the typical don't lift anything more than 5 lbs (gallon of milk) for 4-6 weeks. Walking is OK but nothing else" sum it up very well?

If you're asking - "can I carry two gallons of milk at the same time" - most of us are going to say DON'T DO IT.

Having had both the AdVance Sling then having to go on to have the AUS I would say take the time to let you body heal. Just because you may feel good your body needs time to completely heal. Don't rush to do something that may undo the work your doctor just did!

Here is a response I received to an email I sent to Coloplast, makers of the Virtue sling. This person is in Marketing. Actually this is a bit more detailed than what I have learned from some of the doctors, especially the part about leg spreading etc. but it is common sense I guess:
"Yes, it is important to allow for proper healing of the sling before doing anything strenuous. I am not a physician, but the general guidelines we state in our instructions are at least 6 weeks without too much stretching of inner thigh (squats, rollerblading, etc), lifting anything heavier than 5 pounds, or even simple things like being careful getting in and out of cars that you do not spread your legs too far."
