Hi guys how are you? Its been a while since I have posted, put I have been in touch daily signing on just to read your posts. Glad to see you are all doing well :)))
I finished my bar exam two weeks ago (fingers crossed) and just wanted to update you guys on my father and had a question for you all.
Okay so my dad completed RP Dec 21, T3a gleason 7 (4+3). Unfortunately his 5 week psa came back at .55. Doctor started him on Casodex for one month followed by Lupron shots every month. He has received his second lupron shot today. He will start radiation mid April and continue on Lupron for another 4 months after that (for a total of 6 months) and then doctor will monitor his psa afterwards.
So here is my question:
4 weeks after his first lupron shot his psa went from .55 to .1. We were hoping to get an undetectable result by now. What gets to me is that I have been reading other people's psa drop dramatically from the first lupron shot (e.g. 19 to .08 only three weeks later). Is this not a good sign? Should it have been undetectable at this point? Or am I reading too much into this?

Thanks guys...this continues to be the best website out there.

Hello Lynee, congrats on finishing your bar, I knew it was hard for you to study at the time. Glad your father is doing well still. Can't answer your question, as I went straight to salvage radiation without any HT added to the mix. Sure several here have done it his way and will be able to answer you.

Good luck to both you and your dear dad.

I think you are reading too much into it. It will go down further, give it time.
Father died from poorly differentiated PCa @ 78 - normal PSA and DRE
5 biopsies over 4 years negative while PSA going from 3.8 to 28
Dx Nov 2007, age 46, PSA 29, Gleason 4+4=8
Decided to participate in clinical trial at Duke - 6 rounds of chemo (Taxotere + Avastin)
PSA prior to treatment 1/8/2008 is 33.90, bounced on 1/31/2008 to 38.20, and down at the end of the treatment (4/24/2008) to 20.60
RRP at Duke (Dr. Moul) on 6/16/2008, Gleason downgraded 4+3=7, T3a N0MX, focal extraprostatic extension, two small positive margins
PSA undetectable for 8 months, then 2/6/2009 0.10, 4/26/2009 0.17, 5/22/2009 0.20, 6/11/2009 0.27
ADT (ongoing, duration TBD): Lupron started 6/22/2009
Salvage IMRT to prostate bed and pelvis - 72gy over 40 treatments finished 10/21/2009
PSA 6/25/2009 0.1, T=516, 7/23/2009 <0.05, T<10, 10/21/2009 <0.05, T<10
