Howdy All,

Just thought I would drop in for a quick follow up on my journey through this PCa carp.

I am going in today for a PSA test to follow up on the IG/IMRT. As most know, my first test following rad was not what I would call a real good one. At 6 weeks following rad it came back at 1.1. Before the rad it was .60.

So doc ordered another one for 30 days following.

I also want to get this one in and get the results before Wednesday. Wednesday is the day I have my first face to face with the VA docs so they can get on with paying me the benefits for having PCa (as they presume) from my service in Vietnam and their use of Agent Orange.

So there you go, that's what going on. Been enjoying the RV immensely. Made a couple of trips to umpire some great D1 college ball and Lynn and I enjoyed a trip to Valdosta to watch our son play baseball. Looks like the coach is going to work great for her and she will be able to travel with real comfort. The plan is to follow our son and his games through the first of May and then hit the road for ourselves and make the first extended trip.

That's the trip when you may see me pull up in front of your house, blow the mighty air horns, and just get a chance to say hello face to face. Look forward to meeting a bunch of your in person.

You guys and HW have been the "ROCK" and solid foundation of support of my journey.

Thanks,

Sonny

Sonny, my dear brother

Thanks for the report. Hoping that at least you will get some kind of downward movement on that post SRT PSA test. That would be an encouraging sign. My 2nd reading is coming up on April 6th.

As far as the VA part goes, just a formality, the good thing about your case, is that it has such glaring, obvious negative things. I.E. almost instant recurrance, your RT, your post number, etc, and you can say whatever you need to say about incontinence and/or ED, certainly a subjective thing on that part. You earned it, you deserve it, you need to get it.

When I was in Asheville Saturday, saw a cool patch, should have bought it, it was round like an orange, and the wording said something like"I Survived Agent Orange, Did You?"

Glad to hear Lynn made her first RV trip in the "Beast". I was looking at a new 37' 5th wheeler, and it was huge, I can't imagine that your coach was still another 8 feet longer. Geez, you have the mac daddy for sure.

Good luck, the brotherhood awaits some wonderful news for you.

Best of luck today Sonny!

We also bought an RV (small one called RoadTrek). Due to prior commitments we won't be picking it up until May 1st but then embarking on our first cross-country trip. We're shedding all thoughts of PCa in preparation for the trip.

Happy trails,

Thank you my friends for your wonderful words of caring and encouragement.

I'll let you know the results of the test in the morning. That's what is nice about dealing with someone as big as MDA, they have an in-house lab and the results will be available by phone in the morning.

63 years old . PSA-- 3/08--2.90; 8/09--4.01; 11/09--4.19 (Free PSA 24%),  after 45 days on cipro! DREs have always been normal. PCA-3 was about 75 (way above the 35 threshold). That led to:

Biopsy on 11/30/09. 5 out of 12 cores positive. Gleason 4+3. 2 cores were 3+3 (one 5% and the other 30%) on one side. On  other side:2 cores are 4+3 (5%)--1 core 3+4 (30%) no peri-neural invasion. prostate is 45 grams. Stage: T1C.

Surgery with Dr. Menon at Ford Hospital, 1/26/10. He says all looked good. Spared nerves. Unfortunately: Pathology Report: G 4+3 (65%-35%). Cancer in 15% of gland. Lymph Nodes: Clear.  Perineural Invasion: yes. Seminal Vessical Involvement: No.  Extraprostatic Extension: yes.  Positive Margin: Yes-- focal-- 1 spot .5mm. Final Weight is 52.7 gms.  (Second opinion from Jon Epstein at Hopkins confirmed these results)

Incontinence: joined that club-- definite leaks—1 pad/day. Night is dry, was  using 1 pad at night for security, but pretty much dispensed with that most nights. Update: no pads at night. No pads while at home, but still very uncomfortable. Use 1 pad for out-of-house activities. Suddenly got MUCH better on 3/10/10, almost overnight. Still some urgency but no pads about 90% of the time.  As of 3/12/10--completely continent!

First post-op PSA on 3/10/10--DRUM ROLL: 0.01 Next PSA in late May.
