I like reading all of the issues that HW members brings to the forum. Very informative.
I still have pain on the left side of my penis just under the head. I have used Lidocaine jelly with no effect. Still hurts. Even taking oxy, the pain is still there. Anyone out there ever have the same problem? Could it be from being in urine filled diapers all day long? Any advice to releave the pain. Thanks!!!

Sam,

Sounds like a call or visit to your uro is in order. Who know, it might not even be related to your surgery.

Take care of yourself!
Diagnosis at age 53. PSA 2007 about 2; PSA 2008 4.3
Biopsy September 2008: 6 of 12 cores positive; Gleason 4+3 = 7
CT and Bone scan negative
Da Vinci surgery at City of Hope December 8, 2008
Radical prostatectomy and lymph node dissection
Catheter out on 7th day, replaced on 8th day, out again 14th day following negative cystogram
Pathology: pT2c; lymph nodes negative; margins involved; 41 grams, 8% involved by tumor; same Gleason 4+3=7
PSA 1/22/08 non-detectable! 8-)
4/23/09, 07/30/09, Oct 2009, Nov 09, Feb 10 still undetectable (<0.01)!

Is this pain inside your penis?  Or if it is skin related, then certainly wet is a huge possibility.  Getting the junk dried out is very important.
If it is inside your penis it could certainly be irritation still from the catheter. that can hang around for a long time. Unless it is swollen, red irritated and looks infected, there is probably not much that can be done. Nerve damage can cause this kind of stuff. If it will make you fell better, call your doc.
But penis pain like this is prety common among us.

You did not say if the pain is from the skin being wet. It that is the case treat just like diper rash. If inside the penis then you prob want to give the Dr a call. Many have complained that the penis ached after cath removed. If the pain if from cath irritation there is a little pill that will fix that in not time at all. Like in min. of taking the pill.

Hi

I may have experience of this: penis is slightly swollen, and red especially below the foreskin. My doctor says it may have to do with irritation caused by leaking urine but I am not sure, since I do not notice any leakage. Whatever causes it, the following helps with the symptoms: 1) wash twice a day with some kind of mild 'soap' (I don't know the correct english term, I use the same stuff that my teenage son uses to wash his face). 2) this is important: after washing, use antiseptic cream so that the penis does not 'dry' (and fall off :) ). For me this is no cure, but it keeps the symptoms away.

I had external irritation from the wet diaper pants that also likely contibuted to a couple of ugly urinary tract infections (UTI) - a smart choice for me was to use a pad also, so that I could change them more often, to try to stay drier.
Some people on the board argue the needed economy of filling the pad to the brim (we all know they cost), but as frugal as I am, I'll still use more to stay drier.
Now some 23 weeks out from DaVinci Robotic surgery, I stll leak, and use one or two pads a day, and one at night (rarely wet, but still beats changing the sheets at 2 a.m.).
So, without formal medical background, I found that drier was better, and that my UTI problems dropped off fast when I stopped "filling" pads, and also started using a "wet wipe" to clean up a little bit between pads.
Regardless, any pain that gets your attention also demands at least a review with your physican or nurse.
