Icompleted 29 of 38 IMRT scheduled sessions today. Everything except urgency and frequency of urination going well however, last night I developed a severe rash on my lower arms and upper legs that was extremely itchy. Could this be a side effect of the radiation? I took Benadryl capsules and put Kenalog cream on the effected areas and it seemed to help. Any info appreciated.

Sailor, good to hear from you. You are almost through with your radiation ordeal. Just a few more. I had a lot of weird side effects during mine, but never like you just described. To be on the safe side, let your radiation oncologist know about it right away.

Good luck on the rest.

Sailor,
I haven't seen any skin issues yet, and was not led to believe that I should - but David is right - I pass everything by the Dr. for her opinion even if I think it might have been gas from the mexican food -

Interesting to think of impact on the arms. They have me hold onto a big plastic ring on my chest, which would keep my hands & arms well out of the way of the "gun". I firgure it was just to help keep me still.

I could see upper leg exposure being a risk.

So I guess now only 8 more for you? Guess I've got 17 to go.

David & 142. Thanks for info.  The rash is on my lower arms and legs and I'm beginning to think it is some type of allergic reaction etc.  I spent a lot of time in the sun (without sunscreen) last week and seems like I read somewhere that if on radiation therapy, be careful with the sun especially if blue eyes and fair skin which I am.  The rash is subsiding today and I do feel better. The doc looked at it this am and was baffled - thinks totally unrelated to the radiation therapy and will send me to Dermo on Monday if it continues.

David,  your my hero.  I find it amazing that you can have such strength and maintain a positive attitude after all you have endured.  Honestly, I don't know if I could have taken it.  I pray that you will get better soon.  I've heard it said that the Lord only gives the heaviest crosses to those strong enough to carry them - you certainly fit that category!

142 - Hang in there and continue to drink plenty of water about 45 min prior to radiation.  So far, except for this rash, the SRT has been a "piece of cake."  The staff at Mayo Jax have been superb.
