This question is for my curiosity since I had brachytherapy in 1998 and a salvage prostatectomy in 2008....

After my brachytherapy, I had no noticeable problem having an erection or ejaculation for about 4 or 5 years.  Then slowly, I noticed that my erections weren't as hard and my ejaculation was not the same.  Instead of the old guyser effect, it was more of an oozing effect.

My family doctor on more than one occasion basically chalked it up to our "getting older".  I was 53 or 54 at the time!!!

My question is, has anyone with brachytherapy more than 5 years ago experienced anything similar?

Wigs, I just had my Brachytherapy four weeks ago so I am anxious to see the responses that you get here. Before all this PC stuff, I WAS quite sexually active (for a 73 year old), but just lost all "desire" as soon as I received the PC Dx which was about four months ago. sad

I cannot comment directly, but my younger brother had brachy at age 55 and now, 6 years later, reports that Viagra does what is needed. So perhaps you should ask your uro for some samples
Age at diagnosis 66, PSA 5.5
Biopsy 12/08 12 cores, 8 positive
Gleason 3+4=7
CAT scan, Bone scan 1/09 both negative.

Robotic surgery 03/03/09 Catheter Out 03/08/09
Pathology: Lymph nodes & Seminal vesicles negative
Margins positive, Capsular penetration extensive Gleason 4+3=7
6 weeks: 1 pad/day, 1 pad/night -- mostly dry at night.
10 weeks: no pad at night -- slight leakage day/1 pad.
3 mo. PSA 0.0 - now light pads
6 mo. PSA 0.00 -- 1 light pad/day
9 mo. PSA 0.00 -- 1 light pad/day ED remains
12 mo. PSA 0.00 -- still one light pad and ED

My uro explained it like this: with surgery the ED is bad at first and improves over two years then levels off. With radiation, the ED is not bad at first but gets worse over two years and levels off. Take your pick.

6-week post-op PSA .06
April '10, Cialis 10 mg 2xweek, 1/4 of the time results in 50% erection
Bladder neck dilation May 2, 2010
0.08 cc Bi-mix injection June -- 80% successful
