Just a quick catch-up note:

Mac’s doing great 18 days post robotic.  Leaking in mere drips and drops…peeing well and with only a slightly uncomfortable burning sensation, stops and starts easily thanks to kegel exercises. Maybe too early to tell, but it looks like I’ll be donating our supply of Depends to the local thrift shop.  He starts the therapeutic Cialis next week and will switch to Levitra if side affects are too bothersome (his one try of Viagra pre-surgery gave him flu-like symptoms.)  The first PSA test comes on 8/5/10.  More anxious waiting, but that aptly describes the last 3 months.

Thanks again to all for your support, help and advice.

Best – Paella

Mac’s statistics:

Age 65 - 5'11" Weight 210 BMI 29.1

Overall Heath Condition: Good

No family history of prostate cancer

PSA in November 2001 = 1.0 slowly rising to 4.4 in Feb 2010 (eleven years)

Biopsy: 04/19/10: Gleason 3 + 4 with 5 of 12 positive

Robotic Radical Prostatectomy on 6/14/10 with both nerves spared

Path report – T3a; Gleason still 3+4.  No tumor present in the seminal vesicles, margins or removed lymph nodes.   Perineural invasion? - yes.  Extraprostatic focal presence? - yes

6/29/10 Cath removal uneventful.  Continence almost there 3 days later.

1st post-surgery PSA planned for August 05, 2010

glad mac is doing so well. honestly, on the pain/burning part, my usual advice, ask dr for some pyridium. will knock all that burning sensation right out and its a cheap generic med, either 4 or 10 bucks at wal mart.

I'm happy to hear that Mac is doing well.  Expect continence to improve on a weekly basis for a while yet.
Give another week or two of being careful not to strain anything or overdo it.  Even Superman would've had to wait three weeks.
I hope you don't get the pain in the perinium but if you do know that it is temporary also.
Keep healing and enjoy your summer.
