Peter just changed how our signatures work by reducing the amount of Characters to 400 in a signature. What is not clearly understood is that signatures can be expensive to the website as many folks, especially the folks in the prostate cancer forum, have large signatures.

What Peter changed works this way:

There are two ways to post in threads. First there is the Blue button labelled "+ Post Reply", then there is the text box labelled Quick Reply at the bottom of each thread.

Here is how they work:

The Blue "+ Post Reply" button: When you click this button, there are check boxes at the bottom. If you want your signature to appear in your post, you MUST check the "Include signature" box. If you don't have that box checked, then you will have no signature attached to your post.

The "Quick Reply" text box: A quick reply will always include the signature in the thread if you have a signature in your profile. But we encourage you to try to post a signature only once in a thread.

Again, these changes were made to reduce the amount of storage to keep the site at it's fastest, and to try to encourage the members to not use the signature more than once per page.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Sounds like a reasonable change to make, however, I must admit that I found it difficult to squeeze my signature into 400 characters and still make it meaningful enough for others to get useful information out of it.
Thanks for looking out for our site.
Hope all is well with you.

There is a work around...

If you do a thread telling your story and putting your information there, you can post the link in your signature. Use your signature for current status information something like "Detail Stats - Click Here".

I think the 400 character thing is a bit small, but Peter know why it has to be this way better than we do. This is a site that has had 25,000,000 views, and over 1,000,000 posts. I bet when he started this site he had no idea how it would take off.

Tony,
Not sure what happened, but I just now did a "quick reply", and it did include the sig. So this may not have kicked in yet.

Quick Replies will always include a signature (I fixed this in your description above Tony).... Whereas the Post Reply or Post New Topic options you have to explicitly check the box to include a signature. I hope that clarifies things. I may look at adjusting the 400 character limit to something more, but we'll see how it goes for the time being.

Thanks all for your patience and understanding!

Thank you Peter...i posted an alternative to the large signatures. Here it is again:

Since we are now trying to be innovative...Google has free blog sites. If everyone would go and setup one page, you can type until you drop there. Then you can come back here and put that link in your signature. It's fast, it's unlimited, and it does not break any rules here...

If you have a gmail account, you already have a login to this free website:

Here's the blog site for uh the blog site. This shows the very many features available....
