Well hallo again ladies and gents.

I've had a break from the forum for several weeks, and was busy with loads of "normal" stuff.

But today I have just got back from seeing the Surgeon at the NKI-AVL hospital in Amsterdam and wow!!!!!!! my PSA is down to "<0.1", which is the lowest that this hospital will give you.

So the radiation therapy seems to have worked. (But it sure has messed up my BMs)

I have to go back for my next PSA test in January.

So all I need to do this evening is something enjoyable.

Great news! I'd even allow myself a good beer after that.

But it would have to be before 8 pm.

My next check is mid-October, just about the 1 year anniversary of the meeting with DaVinci.

Alf- decent news, hope you slayed the dragon. Glad you didn't go into detail on the BM factor...that could be TMI territory. (too much information) Those issues should subside but could take some time in so doing. My attempted humor needs flushing.
Dx-2002 total urinary blockage, bPsa 46.6 12/12 biopsies all loaded 75-95% vol.; Gleasons scores 7,8,9's (2-sets), gland size 35 normal, ct and bone scans appearing clear- ADT3 5 months prior to radiations neutron/photon 2-machines, cont'd. ADT3, quit after 2 yrs. switched to DES 1-mg, off for 1 yr., controlled so well, resumed, using intermittently, pleased with results

Glad to hear it.. hope it stays that way.
First ever PSA test Jan 2010 @ 51 years old. 4.0.
Digital exam in March 2010 showed 1 side hard, other soft.
Biopsy, positive in 3 of 12.
Davinci @ Boston Medical Center, May 17, 2010.
Was suggested prior to it was likely contained.
June 1 advised 3+-4 was really 4+3 per pathology. Pos margins.
Listed on patholgy as PT3, but with extraprostatic extension,
microscopic invasion of the bladder neck, PT3A is perhaps the case.
Catheter removed June 1.. 1 pad/day, doing ok. ED, but not in rush.
Sore as heck down there, but doing much walking with my wife.
To meet with my Uri (1st meeting since) June 17 - 1 mo point, to discuss.
BMC already has me setup to meet with radiology.
Felling a little better each day. Cant tell if my expectancy just went from 10-15 down to 5-7, the information out there appears to be all over the place. I WILL NOT radiate my insides to the point of being a veg for the sake of a few years. QOL is primary to me. Selfish I guess. I pray for all of you as I do for myself, but must remember that i've had a pretty good 50+ years, and know others who have lost their children to disease.. so I dont have the nerve to complain! Update 7/14/2010: When I tried changing this sig a few days after creating it, system was broken. My new rad oncologist are discussing IMRT.. though he says he can see why waiting a bit and watching the PSA on super sensitive basis might make sense. I am leaning towards IMRT.. thinking is my body is pretty strong now, i'm 51, and if I can rid my body of this while trying to minimize the side effects.. I dunno. No really Good answers. When I said I didnt want radiation to the point of being a veg.. I really meant there is a limit as to where I wish to go in order to realize only a small increase in life expectancy.. and not that I am an unreasonable person. I do, after all, have an obligation to my wife and kids.

Am I right that the rules on signatures are different. Mine wasn't attached to my post.
In case no data about me shows with this, then Lynn my PSA after surgery was 0.1 and in March 2010 before RT it was 0.4
(One thing that happened while was away fom the forum was that I lost all the data I had about PCa from my laptop and most strangely I lost all the data in my back up too. The contents of my "Prostate Cancer" folder was the only stuff that disappeared either on the harddrive or the stick! Luckily I jhad some stuff on my backed up back up on my son's PC)

Not been on holiday really, but just trying to enjoy life and not get PSA anxiety and I did drive about a bit in the rain looking at some Dutch countryside.

Amazingly not had a drink today after all.

Alf
Age at Dx 48 No Family history of Prostate Cancer
Married 25 years, and I cannot thank my wife enough for her support.
April 2009: PSA 8.6 DRE: negative. Tumour in 2 out of 12 cores. Gleason 3+3.
RALP (nerve-sparing) at AVL-NKI Hospital Amsterdam on 29th July 2009. Stay 1 night.
Partial erections on while catheter still in. Catheter out on 6th Aug 2009.
Dry at night after catheter came out
Post-op Gleason 3+4. Tumour mainly in left near neck of bladder.
Left Seminal Vesicle invaded, (=T3b!)
no perineraul invasion, no vascular invasion. clear margins,
Erection 100% on 15th Aug 2009, but lots of leaking of urine
Stopped wearing pads on 21st Sept 2009
Pre-op style intercourse on 24th Oct 2009 !! No use of tablets, jabs, VED etc. but...
Nov 17th 2009 PSA = 0.1
Can still get erections okay, and almost no leaking of urine, but since December 2009 I don't have orgasms, instead I just have intense pain in place where prostate used to be.
Mar 17th 2010 PSA = 0.4!!! referred to radiation therapist
April 13th 2010 CT scan.
April 28th 2010 Started Radiation Therapy (66Gy - 33 sessions)
June 11th 2010 finished RT - main side effect tiredness, but also the occasional small leak
June 27th My 50th Birthday - feeling better but still not 100% okay
