What have anyone learned or been told what is a reasonable time to stay on hormones?

My current oncologist wants to keep me on them indefinitely but my new Urologist thinks that if the PCa is still alive someplace it will eventually figure how to get around the Hormone . he feels it is better to go off and if PSA rises above nader then we can use Lupron to fight PCa.

I am approx 30 months post combo IMRT and Proton at the U of FL Jacksonville. PSAs continues since completion of treatment to be <.1.

Recent Bone Scan suspect of METs at T8 and T9. First Oncologist said it was rare for METs with my current PSA (new Urologist agrees) and was sure hotspot was from Arthrites but now wants a CT after conference with Radiologist.

So nice to see you posting. Debbie kept me up to date on everything and I am so happy to hear from you.

Your G10 makes decisions tougher about stopping the HT. i knew of somebody in a similar situation with G10 and he did stop but it did not work out for him. You might ask about second HT's if you want a Lupron break. Ask about Nilandron and DES. Although I bet no one wants to consider DES after the ticker event.

If you get a chance give me a call. I would love to hear from you again...

My local doctors initially said 3 years. Then dropped back to two years after I winched. They said that there isn't a lot of evidence that 3 would be better than 2. I saw Dr Myer this summer. He suggested that I just do ADT3 for 1 year' primarily because I am pre-diabetic. He is a big supporter of intermitted HT. Clearly the hope is that intermitted HT will prolong it's effectiveness.

Hi Richard,
I was on Lupron for two years with the last shot in January 2010. My urologist did not think a third year would make any difference. And, to be honest, the last six months were tough. I put on weight and had very low energy levels. But I guess energy levels are relative as I am usually pretty active.
Hope that this turns out to be something else.
