Bronson, sorry but this is a hoax and was not issued by Johns Hopkins.  This has been floating around the internet for years.  You can check this and other rumors out at
Tudpock (Jim)
Age 62 (64 now), G 3 + 4 = 7, T1C, PSA 4.2, 2/16 cancerous, 27cc. Brachytherapy 12/9/08. 73 Iodine-125 seeds. Procedure went great, catheter out before I went home, only minor discomfort. Everything continues to function normally as of 9/10/10. 6 month PSA 1.4, 1 year PSA at 1.0. My docs are "delighted"! My journey:

THANKS JIM - just went and googled the tag line and found out is is a hoax - my apologies to all who read it -
-I will be deleting the link - and have written my buddy about the hoax

Information falsely attributed to Johns Hopkins called, "CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS" describes properties of cancer cells and suggests ways of preventing cancer. Johns Hopkins did not publish the information, which often is an email attachment, nor do we endorse its contents. The email also contains an incorrect spelling of our institution as "John" Hopkins; whereas, the correct spelling is "Johns" Hopkins. For more information about cancer, please read the information on our web site or visit the National Cancer Institute's web site at Please help combat the spread of this hoax by letting others know of this statement.

thanks to 88cc - for his link below - to the Princess Margaret Hospital link - and the nutrition guide that I have followed in my recovery -

(side note) some guys have been providing links but not using the - [url]full website address - and then square bracket /url square bracket - format to create a direct link - so you don't have to cut and paste

Yeah, that article had some things that are probably true (and helpful) but some of it doesn't make sense. Regardless, here's a Web site with a PDF titled "Challenging Prostate Cancer" that I found helpful; the section on nutrition discusses cancer fighting compounds such as isoflavones in soy, lycopene, and antioxidants. Hope it helps.

Age 55; living in Seattle area
PSA = 5.1 on July 19, 2010; no long term history
Bx on Aug 25, 2010; ultrasound showed 88cc volume (due to BPH)
Dx on Aug 31, 2010; 6 out of 20 cores positive
PNI in 2 cores
G = 6 (3+3); Clinical stage = T2a
No treatment yet; still researching options.

OK, I just figured out how to add a "hot" link. (Pretty dumb for a former Chief Technologist. :-)

Bronson, thank you for posting a correction...I've gotten many emails citing research by Hopkins and almost all have been hoaxes. Guess those who start these things figure that if they attach a name like Johns Hopkins, folks will believe it!

Tud, we check out all the time when we get emails like sister in law is notorious for circulating all kinds of emails with false information. It's a constant battle with many of our family and friends to get them to check out this "garbage" before cluttering up everyone else's inbox.
