A few months ago I participated in Dr. William Catalona's Genetics of Prostate Cancer Study.
Even though I chose not to go to Dr. Catalona for surgery I did keep in contact with their office.
To participate in the study they sent me a questionaire about my and my relatives medical
histories and a set of vials to return blood samples in. On one of my regular visits when I was
undergoing IMRT I had one of the nurses draw the blood samples and then I sent them in in the
prepaid FedEx packaging. Today I received a letter from his office thanking me for my participation.
He also enclosed two copies of his Quest magazine that his office prints. It has many articles about
what they are doing as far as their research studies go.

If anyone is interested in this type of thing you can call them at 312-695-4511 or by email at

I also took part in that study, but didn't have to worry about mailing any blood samples since Catalona did my surgery and 30 years ago he did a TURP on my father.
