After my robotic prostatectomy it was discovered that I had a separation at the bladder neck which caused a pouch (diverticulum) to develop at the posterior section where the urether meets the bladder. Over time this diverticulum became 4.5 centimeters. I have been to two uro surgeons seeking advice and counsel only to be told it will heal itself. I was surprised to find that my uro had never seen this condition before. I was on my back for 3 weeks on pain meds and still very little relief. It is painful to sit down since the diverticulum is located approx. 1" from the rectum. It's like sitting on a golf ball. These figures and location were verified by radiology after a CT scan. My second opinion uro felt like the urine in the diverticulum would eventually absorb into the body tissue. He mentioned he had seen this condition before which was comforting. Also my uro assurred me the separation at the bladder neck would eventually heal itself on its own. I ask them both point blank was there any surgery they could do to eliminate the problem and both said absolutely not. I am hoping someone may have knowledge of this condition and can shed some light on a frustrating part of my recovery.

taylor,

i have heard of what is ailing you, my uro-surgeon talked about that condition once with me. i believe your doctors are correct in saying that there is not a surgical procedure for it, despite the pain and suffering you are feeling. the urine inside is sterile, while not ideal, should not cause any problems in and of itself. good luck, for your sake, i hope it resolves itself soon.
