Well it may seem odd but MJ & I celebrated my latest PSA even though it was 3.5.  Last one was 3.3 and for me this is good I expected it to be much higher based on the way it was going, but the Oncologist said it basically stayed the same which is very good.   I was set when I met with him like Sonny to have the HT talk but he said since I feel great and no problems with clean scans lets wait until April and see what happens.  It is possible it is slowing down but who knows, I can only hope for the best and celebrate the little victories.

That's good news, Jerry, see if you can keep holding off the HT beast!

Jerry - wishing you the best on the (hopefully) slowing PSA - and special congrats to you and MJ - they may seem little - but a victory is a victory -

Jerry:

One thing confuses me. Let's assume the SRT is a failure (I think I am currently one tx. behind you!!!).

It seems I've heard two philosophies:

1) Hit it early with the HT (which would mean you should do HT right away) or

2) HT will make your QOL crappy and there is no reason to rush it, so wait until the PSA is clearly rising (perhaps above 10???) and then hit it.

Am I correct on these two scenarios, or is #2 now the generally accepted protocol?

Good news Jerry,

Sometimes no progress is progress or is that an oxymoron....

Thanks everyone for your support.

Mel,

I can only say what I feel about HT there are many different feelings on when is right to start.  I did fail SRT my oncologist knows I do not like the idea of HT but I also will do what I have to do.  My oncologist and I decided way back that unless my PSA went crazy I would wait on the HT we talked about the number 10 but who knows.  I am going to be 72 years old I am only married 10 years I feel great now and enjoy life and want to do that for as long as I can.  Younger guys here have a lot more years ahead of them and young children, I cannot say what I would do in that case probably do whatever I could to live.  Right now QOL is important but my next PSA may change my mind.  My doctor feels that every person is different and everyone handles cancer differently and he treats everyone individually.  He said most men with my PSA would be running to get on HT but every case is different and you have to do what is right for you.

Jerry:

I hear ya. I personally would hesitate a lot before doing the HT.

I was just wondering if there was any uniformity of opinion among the medicos. I guess not!!!

Jerry,

Good hearing from you and thanks for the update. Your answer to Mel's question was very good as we each have to take different variables into consideration regarding treatment.

Hope life is good otherwise and could you keep that Artic cold/snow blast up in your neck of the woods for awhile.

Good news on the psa, everything I'm told is the velocity is a key measurement and this seems pretty subdued. We'll do our part and will it even slower!

Our best to you,

A victory is a victory. Cheers to yours! May you next PSA actually turn back around the other way and head back to where it came from! All the best!

Jerry, hang in there, my salvage radiation has failed too, I am 70 so know how you feel, my Oncologist told me that they would not consider HT until 10 so hopefully I have a long way to go from 0.7 planning to die with it, not from it, at a much distant date in the future.

All the best, Mal.

Thank you all for your encouagement and support it means a lot.  I am going to throw this out there not saying this is the reason for the slowing down of my PSA but who knows.  I have read a lot about Pomegranate on this site and my wife has done a lot of research and found many different opinions on the subject.  I did try the Pomegranate juice but it tasted lousy so MJ bought me the Pomegranate supplement that only has Vit C, Green Tea and 500mg of pomegranate extract.  I have been taking it for the last two months everyday and this is the first time my PSA has slowed down.  I have not done anything else differently diet, etc.  May not have anything to do with it but I thought I would share.  I asked my oncologist about it and he said he has heard some promising information on pre cancer cells slowing down when taking Pomegrante but has not heard of anyone with my states but said it cannot hurt you and does promote cardiovascular health.  For what its worth I will keep taking it and see what happens.
