Talking with radiation oncologist the other day.  He mentioned that Finasteride may help to reduce the chance for PC. However, if you already have PC it has been shown to increase your Gleason score.   He didn't site any specific studies or the like. He was jsut passing it on.  Which I thought I should do.

This issue has been in heavy discussion for a while...

What SEEMS to be happening is this...The Proscar does reduce the likely hood of being diagnosed with PC by 25%...BUT, when PC IS diagnosed, it first seemed the cancers were of a higher grade..

Researchers were at first perplexed by this, but now feel that since the Finasteride shrinks a healthy prostate, it may also reduce Gleason 6 cancers to the point they are missed during the normal 12-core biopsies. This leaves the more aggressive cancers to be detected..At first glance, it looks like the PERCENTAGE of high-risk cancers has gone up when really it's the number of low-risk cancers that has gone down, so the GROUP seems to have more high-risk cancers overall..

However, it seems to me, purely anecdotaly, guys that have been treated with Finasteride like myself SEEM to have higher Gleason scores..

Here is another little anecdotal observation..Men diagnosed with PC seem to have lower "T" levels then healthy men...
