Not sure if you are looking for open or robotic. The guy at Northside has a great reputation but doesnt take insurance. Sorry but forget his name. I know Emory is now doing Robotic and has a very good prostate cancer clinic. Good luck with your search.

Hi EON,

I am in Atlanta. My urologist/surgeon steered me away from surgery due to my stats. He directed me to HDR brachytherapy, IMRT, and ADT3. This was also the advice of my oncologist. Thus, we never had a meaningful discussion of surgery. I will be happy to give you his info so you can inquire with him.

Can't go wrong with Emory, also try Malizia Clinic
diagnosed sept 2006 @ 54 years old, live in Georgia, gleason 3+4=7, (r) lobe only

psa 4.7 (psa rose 1 point per year for 3 years, urologist said still under 4 and no concern. If I can find out about PSA velocity, why didn't he know!)

Told not to have surgery at Dana Farber as cancer had already penetrated prostate, in seminal vesicles, would have positive margins. Would only treat with radiation and HT

RP Emory Atlanta December 2006. Path-negative margin, negative lymph nodes, negative SV, both Lobes involved, 40% gland involved
multifocal perineural invasion, Gleason 3+4=7

1st psa April 2007-<0.04, 6 mos-<0.04, 9 mos <0.04, 1yr <0.04, 21 mos <0.04, 2 yr 0.04 (rising?) 26 mos-0.05, 27 mos-0.04, 29 mos 0.06 Sept 09 ,<0.04 3 year <0.04 39 mo. 0.07 (rising again) 0.07 2 different times 3 mos apart.,now seeing Rad. Onc. next 2 tests with him 3 mos apart <0.05.

had my robotic done in 2009 by dr. benjamin lee. he is with urology of greater atl. and has offices in stockbridge and griffin that i know of.  he did my rp at St. Joseph's in atl.  at the time of my rp he had performed 300 rp's. maybe not as experienced as you would wish but i don't have any complaints, except for the 0.02 psa post-op. i did have a positive margin though so who knows if the greatest of all surgeons could have done better.
good luck!

I have heard good things about Dr. Shah at St. Joseph's.  He has supposedly done over 800 robotic procedures.
PSA 3.9 - October 2010 at annual physical
PSA 4.1 - November 2010 after a month of antibiotic, DRE Normal
Age 41 in December 2010 at Dx of 6 of 12 cores positive T1C and Gleason 3 + 3

Scheduled for open RP on 2/14/11 at Mass General

EON,

My urologost is Lewis Kriteman. He is part of North Fulton Urology with offices in Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Cumming. Phone number is 770-475-7550. They have five doctors in the practice. Kriteman does open and can provide referrals to surgeons that do robo if you like.

For me he suggested HDR brachytherapy and IMRT rather than surgery. He does not want to leave positive margins behind. If you need a referral, just use my name, Jack Francisco.

Dr. Shah at St. Joseph's performed my husband's surgery in 2007 and also did my brother in law last year. We "interviewed" both Dr. Shah and Dr. Scott Miller at Northside. Dr. Miller is undoubtedly excellent as well, but we were impressed with Dr. Shah's credentials and experience and seemed to develop a better rapport with him. I would not hesitate to recommend him. I am in no position to recommend against anyone, but based on extensive research including flying to NYC to meet with the Director of Genitourinary/Oncology at Columbia University for consultative purposes, Emory was never in our consideration.
Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any questions.
Good luck with your decision!
