Genta is entering their newest drug Tesetaxel into a phase II evaluation. Tesetaxel is an oral taxan that just my reduce many of the morbid side effects of chemotherapy. Here is the information from the InfoLink:prostatecancerinfolink.net/2011/02/10/oral-taxane-enters-phase-ii-clinical-trial-for-mcrpc/
I certainly hope this pans out. Todays front line chemotherapy, docytaxel (Taxotere) and prednisone, offers a median of 19 months life extension but has many side effects. Then we have a second line chemo Cabazitaxel (JEVTANA) that is also combined with a steroid (prednisone) that can deliver an addition median of 4 months life extension. Both of these options are riddled with various side effects. It would be great to reduce these to a prescript
ion that does not require a steroid.
