Hello,

Do not want to initiate the whole pomegranate discussion again,  but for those who do like to take it,  I wanted to pass on a decent value I found for the Pom-x brand 1000mg pomegranate extract capsules...   I found them at:

for $18.23 a bottle and $5 off first bottle/order...  (that why the page says $13.23...  that only for the 1st bottle)  So,  I got 3 bottles/90 capsules for $49.69 and that included shipping.  They are fresh packages with Jun2012 date...  That is $0.55 a capsule...  or $17/month...    Not a bad deal...

Cheers!

Not trying to one-up you, but I found Puritan Pride brand 250 mg, 120 count capsules- buy 2 bottles get 3 bottles free, for a total of 5 bottles or 600 capsules for $30.38 with free shipping. I take 4 a day, which gives me 1000mg a day for 150 days at $30.38 or $.20 per day / $10.10 per month cost. Just saying--for those who may be on a tight budget. I have no idea about comparisions between the PomX and these, as far as strength, etc. Seems like 1000mg full strength is the same whichever brand used?

If you are buying PomX from Nuvalife -- the company pasayten referenced -- note the following on their website: "As a member of BestBrandValues, you'll receive $5 off your first order. Price shown includes $5 off for new members only. Not valid for current members. With your purchase, you'll also enjoy a 7-day trial membership for only $1 in the BestBrandValues program at $19.95/month unless you cancel during the trial period. Members enjoy wholesale pricing on over 70,000 DVD titles, over 1,200,000 book titles and over 300,000 art prints and posters by top artists." I personally chose to buy from a different company, since I did not want to be automatically enrolled in some "program" that has costs associated with it, I would have to remember to cancel, etc. Instead I bought from some other website for about $21 per 30 pill bottle, with free shipping.

Medved,

Thanks for that catch! Just saw that "club" show up on my bankcard and called and got it refunded... Those tricky rascals... These type of things usually do not get by me... Must have been late at night... lol... Anyway, thanks again and just another reason I love this board... We have brothers and sisters to watch our backs!

God Bless!

I also recommend Puritan Pride Brand. I'm not buying pomagranate pills there but it's where I do order my Omega Fish capsules. No sneaky credit card charges they are an honest company

From the Puritan's Pride website:

POMEGRANATE EXTRACT 250 mg/60

"Pomegranate contains important polyphenols (plant chemicals) that help promote antioxidant health and help fight cell damaging free radicals. This Pomegranate Extract is standardized 40% for ellagic acid, so you receive all of the goodness the pomegranate is famous for! Use as part of your healthy aging program."

From the Swanson Health Products website:

POMEGRANATE EXTRACT 250 mg/60

"The deep red seeds of the pomegranate fruit are a source of a powerful antioxidant known as ellagic acid. Great for cardiovascular and liver health maintenance, this potent, all-natural compound is remarkably effective at protecting cells throughout the body against the harmful effects of free radicals generated by environmental toxins. Swanson Standardized Superior Herbs Pomegranate Extract features a high-powered guaranteed-potency pomegranate seed extract standardized to an unprecedented 70% ellagic acid content - far more that you'll find in other brands."

Note: both companies claim their product is "standardized" as to ellagic acid content - the Swanson product, however, is showing almost twice as much as the Puritan's Pride product. Since ellagic acid is the principal pomegranate extract "curative" ingredient, it would seem - on the surface at least - that the Swanson product is the one to buy.

Thoughts/Comments Appreciated.

FB,

The disparity between the potency of Puritan's Pride (1217) versus Swanson (2077) is certainly borne out by the chart at http://www.pompills.com/potency/ .

However, POMx is the clear potency winner at 4893I intend to order online right away. The possiblity of benefit is certainly worth my $85.00 quarterly. And .... btw, Medical Oncologist Dr. Snuffy Myers endorses daily pomegrante intake without, unfortunately citing amount or (understandably) brand endorsement.

Collective research on this forum has proven most invaluable once again turn Many thanks to FB and other thread responders!

Be Well,

Hmmm, maybe this works?
PomX is 1000mg, with 4893 potency of whatever. for about a dollar a day
Swanson 250mg is 2077 so taking 2 to get 500mg gives me 4154. Cost- $.28 a day?
Puritan Pride 250 mg. is 1217, so taking 4 to get 1000mg is 4868 of that potency, at $.20 per day-

Both the Swanson and Puritan gives the same effect as the PomX, but at much less cost? That make sense?

James,

Yes, it would seem so until I read the POMx chart heading, which states:

"Each supplement was measured by three leading antioxidant potency tests (DPPH, ORAC and FRAP on a per-gram basis). In order to get an accurate reflection of each supplement’s radical-fighting ability, results of all three tests were combined into an index score."

My interpretation is the amount studied, whether 250mg or 10,000mg, makes no difference since results are measured per-gram. Yes? No?

If'n you are looking for some "cheaper" 100% pomegranate juice, Old Orchard is $6.99/half gallon at Kroger stores.  It is from concentrate, and is in the non-refridgerated juice aisle.  It beats nine bucks for 42oz of Pom.
