Hello everyone. I have been lurking (as he has been as well-so thankful for this board!) but haven't updated in awhile. My father had RP surgery on 1/31/11 with Dr. Ketan Badani out of Columbia. We were happy to hear the cancer was contained and had not went through the wall and the apex of the bladder was clear. So it was good news! He is feeling well, just waiting to officially update everyone after the next appt on 3/31 to see the PSA results post-op. That will be the tell all I suppose. He is dry sitting and sleeping but when squatting and doing alot of walking, he still has weak bladder control but not more than 2 or 3 pads a day I believe. He does the kegals but  I wanted to just get a poll of people that have used either/or both Magnesium and/or Accupuncture to treat incontience? If so, when did you take the Magnesium and what dose and if you chose Accupuncture, how often did you go? Finally do you think it made a difference?

Thanks in advance. I hope to update you all at the end of March with good news!

At about a month-and-a-half post surgery, I'd say he's doing really well to be at 2-3 pads a day. That ain't bad.

I'm about 4 1/2 months post surgery and I'm just getting to that point. I've been taking 500 mg. of magnesium daily for about a month and I'm doing better, but it's hard to say if it's the supplement or just time. My doc says it's all a matter of time, and the time varies from one patient to another.

Sounds like your dad is one of the lucky ones all the way around. Good for him.

I am an acupuncturist, so yes I did acupuncture post RRP for bladder control as well as the magnesium. I was 100% in 2.5 weeks! Magnesium dosage is 250mg daily as a safe dose up to 500mg if you have no cardiac history.

The acupuncture was done daily but easier for me to do that daily than a non-acupuncturist. I would be more than happy to share the three pressure points to use daily with anyone who wants to know via private email or if enough would like then I could do it via a thread on here. I also used acupuncture for all my pain management post surgery, and continue to use it for the stimulation of the nerve bundles to speed up recovery from the ED. I am about 30% recovered in that area and 6 months now post op.
age 44 when diagnosed 45 now
RRP 9-28-10
gleason 3+3
pathology report clear
11-1-10 PSA 0.02
3 month 0.00
pump works ok
12-1-10 noctural erections, not very strong maybe 20%
tried all oral meds and nothing yet
Dr. R. Saint in Tulsa did my procedure, I do NOT recomend him!!
2-28-11 ED seems to be getting worse, no nocturnals for a week, and nothing spontanious at all still
