Hi Guys, Just been pouring over my pathology report, still a bit confused as to the following statement, hoping for some help in interrupting please.

"In slice 2 carcinoma focally involves the right posterior surgical margin of excision within the prostatic capsule over a length of 0.5mm. Carcinoma at the margin shows mucinous differentiation and has a gleason grade 4 appearance.
No Extraprostatic extension is seen."

My question - Is this a positive margin ?

Cheers Kev

After two years it hardly matters, but take a look at how much .5 mm is. I think that if it was a true positive margin it would have told you by now in terms of rising PSA -- especially with the ultra-sensitive test

Kev,

I would say academically you are correct. But so far, it would seem a low PSA trumps an open margin.

Keep up the good work.

Goodlife, Yeah thanks for that, I totally agree, just as long as there not a wild card lurking somewhere.
