I am two months after surgery (open radical). at my 1 month post-op my doc ok'd me to start light exercise including running. Having been a runner/biker all my life, and having gone 1 month without either, I started running. first week, light running, 1 mile at a time, more like a slow jog. felt a little tight around the incision, but surprisingly good. been keeping it up, and am now able to run 3 miles at a time. nothing fast, mind you - I certainly don't push myself. one thing I noticed the past few times - while running I don't leak. However, afterwards, and for a couple of hours, I get leakier than at other times. my question is this - anyone have this situation before? does exercise tend to "tire" the pelvic floor muscles and result in this? I also feel a little tenderness in the prostate area. anyone else have the experience? should I be worried?

as far as cycling, the thought of a bike saddle right now is not a pleasant one. I'll give that another month or so.

background on my continence - making slow progress. leaking a lot right after catheter removal, but have managed to get to where I am consistently leaking about 4-5g per hour on average during the day. down from about 20 g/hr. still a long way to go, and gains have tended to slow down in past two weeks.

thanks

I squirt occasionally on a long run not a big deal for me. Totally continent otherwise. Never after run. You still have some incontinent issues, aside from running. once your incontinent issues ,aside from running, resolve, soon ,
I bet, you probably wont leak at all running or not. Since you are a little incontinent now and improving and do not leak as u run. It may not even be connected.

I think at two months you should not be too concerned. I would just guess, it is muscle fatigue in your plevic floor ot it could be a some bladder issues associated with it's new position and hookup, but at months it probaly does not matter. I think it's great you are able to run at two months. WTG!
My guess is you are going to be dry in just a few more omnths or less.

I have a pretty similar history, and also started running pretty soon after surgery. For me, leaking problems were related to stretching after the jog.

My guess is that the experience varies from person to person depending on the specifics of the anatomy and the surgery. However, I would not think that there is any reason to worry that jogging making incontinence problems worse in general. On the contrary, you'll probably learn to control the muscles better in time by challenging them.

good thing about leaking a little while running is that it looks like sweat anyway and you're going to shower right after. I was very surprised I didn't dribble while running. Figured that if anything would do it, the pounding would.

Davidg, I posted a similar response to a post about 8mos ago, admittedly a liitle more graphic and it was edited out totally, not that I minded, just thought I had crossed a line with what I thought was humor on the issue. Your post reminded me of that, thats all. For the record I use no pad on runs out side, but do on gym runs, as i do strength
tng after .
