Hi all, I have been reading posts and learning for some weeks now, I need to know something.
How long does it take to stop leaking ? which leads to second question. Do kegels alone stop the leak or does it just happen one day, or is the amount of control dependent on how many kegels one does.
I am three weeks post RALP all went well, I'm told managed to go home next day reasonably dry at night most of the time but as I get more active and want to do more the leaking gets worse, probably using three pads a day, 3rd question is that average or too many?

Everyone is different so there's NO "you'll be dry for sure in X number of weeks" model we can give you.

Only three pads a day is a very good sign that you're not a flooder...

I would say if you took all the responders on here and did an average, you would be in the 3 to 4 month range. For many men, that is how long it takes to retrain the muscles.

However, many start out in the 6 to 7 pad range, so you may be ahead if the curve. It took me 8 months, and I would say I am 99 % continent. Can still get a drip or two, or a squirt from various activities.

Good luck and welcome to HW. Don't get discouraged, and keep up those kegals.

Kegals, but don't overdo it and basic core exercizes, ie the plank, { google } pushups which are serious planks etc. you will be 99% dry soon. Good luck

Thanks guys, looks like it's luck of the draw. the doc told me that he went high and had to do a bladder neck reconstruction and that top sphincter muscle gone, this is the one men have and women don't, so have to just rely on pelvic floor now, maybe that's why some are ok straight up, may have kept top sphincter muscle?

Hi nothard we went to same place, I saw Dr Kooner nice doctor, Stricker shares same floor, both top surgeons they say.

The pripostate actually acts as a valve, that can shut urine off so the semen can flow. Some men have more room between the prostate and prostate, and therefore have a longer sphincter muscle, which gives them a little more control. Or at least that's how I understand it.
