Howdy:

Just curious about the telltale fatigue that comes with radiation.

My image is that all of a sudden, you hit a brick wall.

Is that how it comes on, or do you just get a little tired and it increases gradually each day.

Mine didn't show up until the last week of 39 sessions. And it was like hitting a brick wall. I would be going fine and then just become exhausted. Would have to rest for 15 minutes or so, then I was good to go again.

It is still happening, even though my last session was on March 21. Now, it's mainly at night. I will get exhausted at 10:00 OR 10:30 pm, have to turn in. I used to stay up until midnight sometimes on the weekend.

It is getting less and less frequent.

Mel I think it varies alot as will all fun things in PCa we that get to endure. Some guys get hit harder or early or lesser. I had ADT3 for 5 months prior to radiations...so already might have had some Zombie blood in me then (unlike 'Tiger Blood' that Charlie Sheen apparently talks about-LOL). But knew later in the sessions that the fatigue was setting in (wasn't' Winning' the fatigue battle then). The good news is could tell it was letting up maybe with one month or so after the ending of radiations and got alot better. Then just the regular Zombie effects of ADT3 which can be more than you want to witness. You will get through this...I just hope your particular 'burning' issues are all temporary and minor and I am sure you do too. I did not experience that back in 2002.

Get ready for long term psa monitoring...I know you will love that...I got 9 years of that program.

Mel,

That was the subject of a discussion with my RO - she belives that the general fatigue is due to HT, so I should not have had it. But in talking to others, I get the general impression that the HT fatigue is different (you actually realize it is approaching before you fall over ??).

My IGRT fatigue was the "brick wall at 60mph" type. Wham.

yes Mel a brick wall is about right, and I still get hit by the wall 10 months on from RT, however I can usually beat it with exercise.

For example:
After lunch I know I need a walk, but often felt like I can hardly get out of my chair to lock the windows let along go anywhere, but I do go out. After finding the first quarter mile or so really tiring I then find I have beaten it and can walk for about three miles without any real bother, and really only have to come home to find a bathroom.

And if I do end up going to bed early in the evening, then at least I know I've had some good exercise, whereas if I take a nap in the afternoon, then I often still end up going to bed early.

Not every day is the same either, which makes me feel like I have become some sort of manic-depressive: one day I have loads on energy and can do far more than normal, and on other days I hardly want to get out of bed. (But I suppose some of this could be down to having removed caffeine from my life too.)

Mel,
Finished ART last week. I have experienced fatigue, especially since treatments have been completed. Not the brick wall, but a little tired. I feel I could control that instead of trying to do everything at once. Usually I just keep going like the Eveready bunny, but it may be difficult. We are leaving for a vacation in Mississippi, and I am sure my energy levels will improve when I "leave the Tundra."
Overall, very few side effects, but they were there. Little fatigue, little loose stool, some flushing, some discomfort when emptying bowels, and last but not least a warm feeling around ears and face (not hot) just warm.
Keep plugging away at those treatments, you are on the downhill slide.
Mr Bill

Please excuse mispells I cannot find my darn glasses.

I exercised and drank a lot of water....Hope this helps.....

Mel,

I think age may play a role, I was 54 (almost 55) when I had IMRT and I never experienced any fatigue at all.
