I am a 56 yr. old who was diagnosed with prostate cancer t2 gleason 6 p.s.a.4.08. a fter 42 i.m.r.t. treatments only.  my first p.s.a. 3 months after treatment was 0.5. needless to say i was thrilled .Two weeks ago i took my second p. s.a. test  appx 4 months after the 0.5 test , this test came back as 1.0 although the number is still low i was concerned because it had doubled in 4 months. my doctor told me to repeat the test in two months. Unfortunatly i sought after another opinioun and a third test was taken 2 weeks after the i.o result. This doctor used a different  lab and the result was 1.3. Now i am panick stricken . Does any one out there have a similar experiance. Do you think i should throw out the third test because of a different lab, and wait two months for the retest at my orginale lab.  how normal are these spikes in such a short period of time. how concerned should i be  thanks ,v.j.m.

welcome aboard, vjm, sorry you need to be here, but glad to have you here

it normally pays to stay with the same lab for consistency sake, if it were me, i would want a test with the orignal lab. also, since you had radiation as your primary treatment, there will be what they call a PSA bounce, as you still have your prostate in place, even though heavily damaged by the radiation, it will still produce psa. i don't know if its too soon to have a bounce or not. did your radiation oncologist discuss the "bounce" with you?

good luck, and keep posting with us. some of the RT guys should come along and give you some first hand advice on your situation
