Typically, do health insurance companies pay for ED drugs (Viagra, etc)?

My BC/BS policy does not. My TRICARE does (18 - 20 mg Levitra per three months for $9).
PSA 2007 - 2.8; 11/24/2008 - 7.6; PCa Dx 2/11/09; age at Dx 62; RLP 4/20/09
Biopsy - Invasive moderately differentiated prostatic andenocarconoma; G 3+3=6; PT2C; No evidence of Seminal Vesicle or Extraprostatic Involvement; Margins clear; Tumor identified in sections from prostatic apex. 70 gram prostate. Continent after removal of cath.
ED - Trimix works well; levitra @ 90%
PSA - <0.1, 1/17/11

My Blue Cross, like a lot of companies, considers these "recreational drugs" and provide very little in the way of coverage.  Blue Cross invited me to send a letter signed by my urologist stating that the drugs were being prescribed as part of a cancer re-hab program, but they also said that they routinely deny such requests.

That's why so many guys buy these drugs from labs in India where the pills often cost less than a dollar each.

After being denied, then appealing with letters from my GP & urologist, my insurance agreed to pay for no more than 8 pills per month (regardless of brand or strength), and all the cost has to be applied to deductible (I have an ultra-high deductible policy, so in effect I pay the full retail price unless I have yet another major medical event this year).

Hi everyone, I'm new here and have a question about who to buy Cialis online from. My doctor wants me to take it and gave me a prescription that was denied by my insurance. My post-op PSA was undetectable so I want to have my best chance at a full recovery.
Thanks

Walmart has Genuine Levitra for $9.00 per pill today

Also note that the Viagra Patent expires March of 2012 which means local US pharmacies will carry generic versions. Most likely the other 2 will have to lower their prices to stay somewhat competitive

Thanks for the quick replay. I found some websites that were much cheaper. I wanted to know which ones are on the up and up.

Lee, the pharmacy of choice here by most of the guys is alldaychemist.com, in India. It is safe, reliable and the drugs are generic formula's of the big 3 in the US. The shipping charge is $24.95, any quantity. There is a slight risk of Customs issues, if so, they will replace the pills for you. There is currently a 2 for 1 offer on the generic Viagra (sildenafil citrate) and Cialis (tadalafil). Levetra is vardenafil.

Note: if ordering tadalafil, they will request you email them and confirm you will not be consuming them inside the US. The guys who use it seem to be frequent world taravelers and always reply they travel and will be using them outside the US. A little shady and a little gray market, but the sildenafil citrate is .57 each, compared to $9.00.

A couple of guys use a Canadian pharmacy, for a higher cost, but they use the same drugs, imported from India, that you will get at alldaychemist. Whether you wish to buy from India is a personal decision.

Thanks James, that is what I was hoping for a site with lots of good feed back.

Thanks for putting together a great site. I have been lurking post-op and found lots of good advice. As for me I went home the next day after Radical. Other than mild discomfort I had lots of rectal pain due to hemorrhoids. Surgery was on 02-09-11, today I have no incontinence issues and feel as good as ever. Hope the rest of my recovery goes this good.

Thanks for the feedback.  It's hard to believe that ED drugs are not covered for PC people.

Lee,

Even if the insurance denies the prescription, Cialis (in the US) has a "first month free" deal - it is the best quantity deal if you ask for a prescription for the 5mg tablets, one per day, more than 1 refill. My pharmacy ran the free one (Cialis paid for 30 x 5mg), then it was approved by insurance at only 8 pills, so we did not ever fill it against the insurance. I went back and got the prescription redone for 20mg. So now I get 8, and cut them into quarters for the approximate 5mg per day.

Main reason to use the free trial is to see if they have any effect at all. If so, you either pay the price or go black market.

My Medicare Part D insurance First Health does not cover ED drugs without appealing it. I get Cialis from Northdrugs.com for about $2 a piece and they have really worked well for me. Drugs are from India but so far no problem with this pharmacy.

Hi Davidg,

The Cialis Trial is for 3x20mg or 30x5mg, silly to get the 3x20's simple math the 30x5's is 150mg ( vs 60mg with the 3 of the 20mg) of medication and IS ideal for rehab as it covers the 1st 30 days post op

Other Trial notes

1) You can do the trial again after 12 months
2) You can request a different med Free if the one you initially chose did not work

Hi Xc Coach,

Where do you see that being on Medicare negates the Free offer ?

Quick answer, my Blue Cross policy covers ED drugs. I have a modest co-pay. I find half a 20mg Cialis is good for 2-3 days.

might mean that you can do well without any meds since 20mg lasts 36 hours. I've tested it that way, I try to get erections 40, 60 and even 80 hours after taking the pill and measure success that way.

MrGimpy, its's in the fine print on the ads. The local drug store pointed it out to me when I applied for the free samples.
