Just saw this in the news:  A 65-year-old ex-convict accused of planting a homemade bomb in a Colorado shopping mall won't cooperate with authorities and has also told federal officials that he has prostate cancer and hepatitis C.

Well, that explains everything!

Good on you, Clocknut! Most here would have missed this story, and the import of it. As you have so shrewdly noted, his statement was to "federal officials!"

Can it really be three years since Charlton Heston died?

Gee, Sheldon,  do I sense some sort of sarcasm in the Charlton Heston reference?  I just found it odd when I read the Yahoo!News headline:  "CO mall bomb suspect won't cooperate, has cancer."  Don't you find it strange that the cancer reference would be reflected in the headline, as if it played some part either in his refusal to cooperate, or perhaps even in his having planted the explosive devices (allegedly, I must add).

Clocknut: I didn't mean to disrespect the bizzareness of linking the bomb with PCa and hepatitis C. I was just picking up and running with your, "That explains everything!"

I feel really, really stupid about the answers to this post. The charlton heston reference really went over my head. I mean I love movie references and stuff, but cannot for the life of me understand the reference. Oh well back to my book. Bridge on the River Kwai! If you ask I will tell. I am asking for your reference. Fun yeah!!!!

I think only Sheldon can explain it.  My first thought was that for some reason he was labeling me as some sort of conservative reactionary NRA-supporting, anti-government type (which may or may not be true).  Truth is, I really don't understand the reference.  My only point was the emphasis the article gave on the man's having cancer, as if that was somehow connected to his having planted the bombs.  Also, I didn't "shrewdly notice" that his statement was to federal officials.  That was cut and pasted right from the article.

I will say that Charlton Heston made a pretty good Moses.

In any case, I recommend Active Surveillance for this guy and for his cancer, too.

The article I read in the Denver Post indicated that the man was advised by his lawyer to not speak to the authorities ... it did not appear to me that his not speaking had much to do with his PCa, and had more to do with making sure his legal rights were covered.

FYI the newspaper also indicated that he had been released from a federal prison back east a week earlier and that the prison had refused to treat him.
