Cajun Jeff, bayou jackal, pigoenflyer and any others, it seems the Mississippi River flood crest will reach Baton Rouge May 23 at 47.5 ft.., then New Orleans the 24th. Are any of you inside the crested flood zone? Sure hope you are high and dry...

Jeff,

I was looking at the plan to open the Morganza(?) spillway, and wondered if that would impact you. Hope not, of course.

My daughter lives on Mud Island in Memphis and it is getting serious there. The river is supposed to crest between 48 and 49 feet Tuesday and 50 feet is where the houses are built. I tried to convince her to get off the island but she is like her mother haha and decided to wait it out.

I will be watching you guys south of me.

peace to you

I called Jeff to check in - they are concerned about the levees on their side at Baton Rouge, but the Morganza spillway won't involve them (other than to take some pressure off the river).

Had a good chat about the GFMPH weekend.

142 thanks so very much for the call. I am a bit on edge about the water situation. If the water goes over the levee we will be very wet! I live less than 1 mile from the river. opening the spillway is going to help our situations by dropping the level of the water on the river. I appreciate all of your concerns more than you know. I will try to keep you guys posted as to the events on the river. I think bayou jackal, pigoenflyer are in a bit better shape than me. How knows. Just ask all those people that lived in New Orleans before Ketrina.

Thanks again guys. You guys are the best.

Is there anything we can do to help? Throw sand bags? Offer a place to stay or store things? Dig a ditch?
You won't have to ask twice.

Just got back from a river town in MS visiting relatives. It appears the levees will hold but I have never seen so much water in my life.

Hey C. Jeff,

Just keeping up with the news, and concerned.
You are yourself - posting help on everybody else's threads while the big river gets bigger.

Got all sorts of things crossed for you.

Cajun Jeff,
We are watching the news and think of you guys every time they mention the levees. The last measure I heard was 1.5 million cubic ft per second. That is 34 acre-ft per second! Inconceivable!
How does anyone prepare for that? Sandbag? Move all the valuables to higher ground? Is your attic higher than the levee?

And those poor people in Cajun country who will most likely be flooded intentionally. Oh man! What are they doing now?

If you need to ship anything for storage/safe keeping (anything at all!) feel free to send it here. We'll make room. You guys included.

Thanks Jeff, We are watching close for sure... Levee was closed to spectators this morning at 7am. We really are hoping that the Morganza spillway will be opened this weekend. That will drop the Mississippi by 1.5 ft. Does not sound like much but It would would take some stress off the our levee system. Last word is if the levee were to break we would have 21 ft of water here.

Have all our important papers safe all the rest is just stuff. Hope we still have that stuff in a month.

Just had the latest stories on the "expected" levels of water pulled up, and was thinking about you guys.

Not much room here, but what there is, you got it if you need it. But then you've had a house over-full more than once, if I remember correctly.

Mom saw the pictures this weekend - was convinced we must be a pretty reputable crew - reminded her that appearances are deceiving devil

142, I just changed the oil in the vette so that you won't have to worry about that while you have the car. I will wax it tomorrow morning and have it in a show till about 2pm. You can pick it up after that. :)

Seriously guy the Gov. ordered the locks to be opened tomorrow. That will bring down the river staged 1.5 ft to 2 ft. We are breathing a bit of a sigh of relief. the crisis is not over but we see something being done to help us.

Guys I can not express how very much I appreciate your comments and most of all your concerns.

James C. Yes that is the location of the levee are even easier to follow. Go East on Main St. It go directly to the levee.
