I am posting an email I received two days ago from a male sling sufferer. I have withheld his user name in respect for his privacy. MBS=male bladder surgery

Hey John, thanks so much for responding and I look forward to speaking with you Wednesday. I'm usually home from work around 6 or 7 pm eastern time, so if it's okay I'll call in the evening around then.

The MBS surgery has been a far worse experience than the radical prostatectomy I had in 2009, which is very hard to fathom. Suffering is truly is the best word to describe what I'm going through right now and feel as though I was not given all of the possible risks / potential outcomes by my doctor pre-surgery. I was told 2-3 weeks for recovery with maybe some pain from sitting for a short while. I work a desk job as I'm an IT admin for software management products, which means I sit 8-10 hours a day. Usually the pain gets worse later in the day from sitting or even moderate physical activity. Any slight pressure on my scrotum hurts all the time as you may have experienced.

Had a recent office visit, my doctor says I have improved slightly and will continue to get better but I'm not so sure about that. They also said after 6 months it is what it is so I'm trying to hold on for the 5th month and hope / pray for some real improvement. The thought of enduring this pain and discomfort for another 1-2 months is not very pleasant to say the least!! Anyway, I'll make a list of questions and again I appreciate your time.

I truly wonder how many more sling implant patients are suffering in silence.

Best regards,

John

Thanks Jeff.

If "Mom 2 love" contacts me I will put him in touch with the reconstructive surgeon that removed a portion of my Virtue sling.

Having what felt like a hard piece of plastic with a "V" notch on the rear side cut from inside my scrotum was a beginning in undoing the pain suffered due to the Virtue sling but more polypropylene needs to be removed if possible. I continue to feel like I am sitting on steel cables when seated. This is comparable to walking with stones in your shoes, only worse.

In my opinion, it is past time for the urologist, that are recommending slings, to disclose the benefits and RISK of male slings, especially the risk of intolerable long term pain as it applies to the various models of available slings.

It is also a good idea to Google FDA's MAUDE reports to learn which male slings are attributed to the highest percentages of intervention.

Best wishes,

John
