Our beloved HealingWell member and friend Walter Whited has moved on. Folks here knew him as War Eagle...Walt. He died Friday after a 6 year battle with prostate cancer.

His wife was not able to locate my phone number but she posted this on my CaringBridge website this morning. She was at a service and could not come to the phone when another of my great Alabama friends called me. I'm certain we'll talk to her tonight and I will extend the love we all had for her wonderful husband...
---
Hey Tony,

Please forgive me for sending you this news on Walt via Caringbridge but for the life of me I can't find your cell phone number or your e-mail. Walt went to Heaven this past Friday. He was talking up to 3 hours prior to his leaving this world. Tony he even cracked a few jokes on that day. You know Walt always the upbeat man, well he went out making others smile. I won't go into all of the details now but when you get a chance, please call me and we will share our memories of my sweet husband.

Your friend,

Johnnie
---

"But they that wait upon the LORD
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as EAGLES
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint"
Is 40:31

Walt's favorite verse...We love you buddy...My prayers are for Johnnie, Sam, Wayne, Beck...and his huge list of friends that they have peace during their mourning.

Thanks Tim,
Yea me and Ruthie really hit it off with Johnnie and Walter. Geez, everybody we met in Alabama were so filled with love and friendship we were treated like royalty. The link below is Walt's obit and it has a guestbook. If anybody would like to sign it you can...

obits.al.com/obituaries/birmingham/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=151409362

Walt didn't post over the last year and a half here but his Caringbridge site has a Christmas message he typed las year. He didn't want to be a "downer" for anybody here fighting this disease. Typical Walter, always putting others before himself. But I am not down about it, at least as much as I could be. It's like I can hear his voice telling me that things are just fine.

I miss him already...

So sad, a brave warrior has gone on. Give his wife our thoughts and prayers for her during her grief and sadness. Walt was one of the first to welcome me here when I first showed up, he was an outstanding first class man.

Tony, so sorry to hear of our brother War Eagle passing this earth. I know from all accounts, he was a brave warrior every step of the way. Sounds like he was a wonderful person in every sense of the word. May his wife and family be at peace.

I am very sorry to hear that Walter passed away. As a fellow Auburn man I am proud to give Walter a last, proud and loud WAR EAGLE! My prayers to his family.

A true warrior, in body and in spirit has left our world. Walt was an inspiration to me. His fighting spirit was one of many here at H.W. whom befriended me and encouraged me in the early stages of my own personal battle. I was never fortunate enough to meet Walt in person but through his many posts and a few phone calls I grew to embrace him as a friend. He will be missed but not forgotten. The cry of the mighty WAR EAGLE will live on. My heart goes out to his dear wife Johnnie in her time of grief. To you Walt my friend I know it is to a far better place you have gone. Until we meet again. Todd

windycitytiger,
Walt got to watch Auburn win the national championship. I was thinking how cool that was. He played on the team when he went to Auburn.

Walt's cry was: "War Eagle, Baby!!!"... Every phone call ended the same way.

Todd he thought highly about you and David Emerson, too. He always thought it was unfair for the young guys to get this stupid disease.

War Eagle is a name, a story, I've always found inspiring. A great human being.

I've always loved his name here and the verse which inspired it.

Blessings on Walt and his family.

I hope War Eagle is kind of remembered like the earlier PCa pioneer Robert Young (coined the terminology PCa is like being thrown into a 'jungle', also created the first lay persons PCa printed glossary/dictionary...needed badly back in 2002). Besides both being PCa warriors and passings. Robert Young's wife named his website Phoenix5.org

May they both rise from the ashes of the destruction from PCa and soar where Eagles fly, just like the Phoenix rising from the ashes. That is where they got the inspiration for naming his website, that still lives on and is legacy. So, War Eagle you are in good company.

The Cry of the Eagle will not be forgotten nor silenced. His many postings and thoughts of comfort brought us some solace at a difficult time in all of our lives go well into that good night my friend. I have thought all of you my friends and confidantes in our journeys together through Healingwell I hope to continue the fight as it were and carry on in this world knowing someday we will meet again.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I have thought about how he was doing. So sad to hear of any of our brothers who pass on due to this alien in our body. So this Ga Bulldog will give out a rare War Eagle shout out to him.

That's sad he was quite a prolific poster when I first arrived here back in late 2007.

My best to his family

My wife and I were out at a wildlife area this evening, a bald eagle flew over, and I lifted my water bottle in a toast to the memory of War Eagle and all PCa brothers who have slipped over to the other side.

I remember Walt's posts when I first came to Healingwell 3 years ago. A selfless man with good advice for all. We are all the poorer for his passing and it is truly a sad loss to all of us.

Walt's kindness and generous spirit found its way even to us down here - We communicated by email a few times for a short while. He always spoke so highly of you Tony in his emails, and loved you and Ruthie. Walt offered his support to each and everyone who came his way. He was also a brilliant musician I understand. Hope he's raising the rooftops in heaven now.  Our thoughts are with Johnnie. Lana & CJ

Thanks for letting us know Tony. I checked Walt's Caringbridge site every so often hoping to see a word from him. What a kind, loving and generous man Walt has been to many here. We've been blessed to know him.

War Eagle,
Susan
