I have six treatments left, with virtually no side effects.  I'm thinking I want to give the girls and the RO some kind of gift before my last treatment a week from tomorrow.  In an odd way, I'm going to miss these people who have become a part of my life for the last 6 weeks.  My wife says to give them a big box of chocolates, but I want to give them something more.  Any suggestions?

G -- i think what you feel is normal.  i know i felt the same way.  my hobby is photography.  i make a gift calendar every year for my closest friends and family.  this year i made extras for the three doctors and some of the staff at the radiation clinic, as well as my urologist and his receptionist.

Girls love massages...nothing they like more than being pampered a bit. Don't know how many girls we're talking about, but a gift certificate to each for a massage might score big with them. Just a thought...

I made a donation to the foundation that supports the hospital, in recognition of one of the rad techs. Then, around a year later, since my appointment was coinciding with the winter holiday season, I sent the staff in the rad oncology department a gift basket (Harry & David type food treats). That's about it.

I think I may start celebrating the date when I finished radiation as my second birthday, in the same way that Alan Alda does, after he nearly died from an intestinal obstruction, but was saved by the right doctor at the right time. If I do that, I'll be the one sending out the cards...

I like the massage idea. I just had one about a month ago to alleviate a pinched nervr in my shoulder. Guys like (or should) like them too.

Things I saw come in as gifts during my RT experience:

Postcards from vacations.
Floral arrangements.
"Healthy" food baskets.
Fruit baskets.
Cases of Ruby Red grapefruit.
Books (we get to know these folks better than the people we work with).
Gift cards.
Sweets in all varieties.
Pastries (the girls all complained about "fattening", but there never seemed to be leftovers).
A bottle or two of red wine.
Mineral waters from exotic places.

I tried to bring something small every week once I realized it was happening.

I gave the lead tech a box of chocolates with a card (to be shared by the techs).

If you want to give more, how about 2 boxes of chocolates (I LOVE chocolate)
